Re: The thread of hope.
Hey Hosk - I dont know if you are religious or what, but I am sending prayers and good vibes your way.
I work in opthalmic research - I don't know the particulars of your wife's case of course, but doctors can do amazing things with the cornea these days.

Hosk, I'm really sorry to hear about the travails you must face now. I'm not religious, but I hope as hard as I can that the consequences of your wife's condition are as gentle as possible.

No news, we have to wait to see the doc tomorrow morning, thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Re: The thread of hope.
Hey all,
Thanks for all the support, guys. I find out what is going on in less than 6 hours.
*many hours later*
UPDATE!
So the results are in. I already tweeted and FBed it, but I'll post it here as well.
The biopsy came back as "indeterminable". In other words, because of the fine needle biopsy, they said that it was a tumor, but without actual sheets of tissue to check, they couldn't rule either way. The only way they can get tissue for what they need is by going in and removing the mass. They could have used a bigger needle, but there is too high a bleeding risk, plus, if it is malignant, it would all come out anyway.
So the surgery is scheduled for Monday February 13th. They are going to go in and remove the left half of my thyroid, leaving the right half in tact. Then, after surgery, they will take the left half of my thyroid and do the tests on the tissue to determine if it is benign or malignant. The chances are 1 in 4 for malignancy, which are a bit more than I expected, but I'm okay with those odds.
In the long run though, I will be monitoring my thyroid hormones and taking a larger dose of synthroids, but that should be all.

Re: The thread of hope.
I think this might belong in the mixed emotions thread.
After meeting with the ophthalmologist yesterday and this afternoon, only her right eye is effected, the pain and blurring in her left eye were most likely phantom pains due to how bad the other one was.
No less than 6 times during each exam he expressed how glad he was that we went to the ER and didnt wait to see him on Monday.
She has been doing drops of something every hour she is awake since Saturday and is wearing an eye patch. He can see that it hasn't eaten through the cornea which is what would have happened had we waited. But she will have some scaring because it did damage the cornea at this point we dont know how severe the scaring will be, how much vision she will loose she might still need corneal replacement surgery.
We will be going in again every day this week for checkups I will update if we find any more out. For right now, its only one eye, the cornea isnt destroyed, yeah! It might still lead to blindness in one eye, boo. If it does lead to blindness its possible she could get the cornea replaced in a very yucky surgery, ehh.

Re: The thread of hope.
The good news is, corneal replacement surgery is very non-invasive and successful.
That is pretty good news. Know that you continue to be in my prayers.

It's definitely a mixed emotion thing. I'd say I'm cautiously uneasy.

Re: The thread of hope.
And my good vibes are also, likewise, still flying.
Re: The thread of hope.
Hey if good vibes are running rampant through the community then let them flood the intertubes!
I had an interview today at a local Tim Hortons. should pay the bills at school, hopefully.
Lord Hosk, you and your wife will be very well taken care of. It sounds like this opthalmologist knows what he's doing. Your wife is going to be able to see her children get old and is going to be able to see them sneaking cookies/treats from the kitchen when they're not supposed to, don't worry.
And Tak? There is a 75% chance that nothing is wrong and that it's benign. So no matter what happens, you know we're always here for ya. You know you rock, so rock that coolness and make your life 20% cooler with that awesome attitude and that great avatar!

Of course I'm out of my mind. It's dark and scary in there!

Re: The thread of hope.
Just sent in yet another job application.
This one for a Trainee Manager position at ALDI. If I get it, it's an above average income with steady employment for 3 years.
But if I don't, back to looking I guess.

Re: The thread of hope.
I am supposed to be getting married next year but my partner is still only getting 16 hours a week in work so currently we don't enough money to start saving for wedding+honeymoon. So i am hopeful that something happens in work and one of the full time staff leave and she takes their job

Good luck marriage is awesome, but try not to worry so much about the wedding.

S'all good. I love that clip, good to see it getting used.
Also I was basically unemployed immediately prior to our wedding, but we were fortunate enough to have much of the cost covered by our parents. We also had a fairly modest wedding.
