MegaMan Vs. MegaMan: Who Will Win? YOU Decide!

Postby The Jester » 12 Feb 2012, 13:08

Do you like the one on the left, or the one on the right? Number 1 or number 2?

Image

Number one is designed after Batman. He's a martial artist and a dangerous mellee foe. He has some gadgets, but uses his fists and feet to subdue criminals.

Number two is designed to be a Gadgeteer. He's a tactician and a chessmaster, who uses his inventions and his brains to best criminals. He builds everything, from explosives and trip-wires to more exotic devices...

Let me know so I can use the right design in the Who You Gonna Call comic! I'll start posting the comic as soon as I have enough of a consensus on which design you guys prefer. :)

The comic, by the way, has been a long time coming, and for that I am sorry.
However! Now that it is almost hear, you should know this; YOU, dear readers, will be the ones to decide what happens. By reading, and suggesting what you want to happen next, you will help the heroes fight crime, and defeat Evil! :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one to think that. 2 but with a cape.

I like the design of two and most of the character of two. But I think I'd like it if he could also use his fists. It doesn't need to be predominant but something he has when he needs it.

I definitely like the idea of using intelligence to beat foes rather than just punching his way to victory.

Why doesn't he use the headband to keep his hair out of his eyes, in any case?

Because he didn't in the video. ;)

The thing about capes with jackets is that it's quite hard to make them look good, and non-villainous. I shall certainly try to, though, and put the results in here for you to see. And update the poll options..

Darkobra: He will, of course, use his fists, just not to the same extent as Batman. Or Tripple Threat, for that matter.

I outlined the different versions' favoured methods of combat. That's not to say that the first version wouldn't use gadgets, nor the second using them exclusively.

Check back in about 45 minutes to see what I could do about a cape on option 2. :)

I'm actually a fan of #2 because he doesn't have the cape. Thanks to Megaman having to rely off of his own wits and, just guessing, athleticism to help him the cape would only get in the way. Also, that jacket of his adds another layer of visual distinction from his peers.

I do like him sans cape, but I now have at least one design with one that I think works...

Gimme a few more minutes (perhaps up to ten) to get finished and uploaded. ;)

That's funny, my thought was closer to "number 1, but without a cape". Although I would also want the goggles from number 2, and headband and hair...

Really, a mix of the two. From number one, take the boots, gloves, bottoms (no pockets, nice knee design), the one-colourness and the belt.
From number 2, the whole head, the lack of cape and possibly the design of the top, if you can work it into still making the top and bottom one colour and matching one another.

I think #2 would use a cape like a jacket (protection from the elements, extra pockets), as well as to break up his outline and make him look more imposing, but equip it with a quick-release clasp so he can quickly discard it before combat or heavy athletics. A situation accessory, more than a regular part of his costume.

The point of the jacket being a different colour to the pants is to make it distinct as a jacket.

The cape on number one helps stop the outfit look like pyjamas, which is... good.

Remember, it's not just the outfit but the character that is different. 1 needs a domino mask for the extra range in expression. 2 is colder and more calculating, so the goggles work in favour of this. The hair could safely be moved over, though.

Er, I think I'll link to this picture, being as it's quite large. Sorry it took longer than I thought.

PICTURE

The one I think could work is number 3. Numbers 6 and 9 actually look quite good, too.

ALSO, cape wearing makes it impractical to give him a jet-pack later down the line... just sayin'. ;)

I'm still an advocate for the no cape look. It comes down to two things, the first being visual uniqueness. You already have Wizard with the cape and Electrobolt in the jumpsuit with that wraparound cape, so giving Megaman just the jacket helps make each one of the three have their own style.

Also, from an in-story perspective, I don't think he would see it as being practical. Just a thought.

As the jacket reminds me of the Wrath of Khan-era uniform jacket, how about instead of a cape, you give him something like Scotty's bomber jacket as optional outerwear? Allows for added protection (and pockets, always important for the gadgeteer) when he thinks he'll need it, doesn't get in the way like a cape does, and adds to a distinctive look. After looking at the Wizard and Electro-volt again, I agree with Vanguard that giving MegaMan a cape as well may not be the best idea.

I'm for the "no cape" approach too. Stylish? Yes. But an intellectual man would not bear such a burden when he needs to be mobile.

I like #2, it reminds me a bit of some of Aaron Diaz's DC re-imaginings.
He habitually wears an expression as if he had determined to drive his head through a brick wall, and was about to do it (Description of U.S. Grant)

I like 6... the way it attaches at the shoulders and flows back without being restrictive. Still says "SuperHero" without being obnoxious. Also gives some sense of purpose to the way the shoulder tabs are designed. Can be removed if it becomes to adding new gadgetry. :)

Hmmmm...

Perhaps keep 2 as he is, for now, but add a cape for state occasions and another bigger jacket for winter conditions? Maybe the cape should be in white, if it's to look fancy in...

Having all sorts of different capes and such for different occasions reminds me a bit of Nite Owl from Watchmen. I remember towards the end when he was somewhere cold he opened up a closet on his ship to grab this large overcoat that he had just for this kind of occasion that was still thematically tied into his costume.

One of many things, too, which I thought was kind of clever. It showed that he was prepared for anything and was always trying to think ahead.
