Re: Legend of Korra!
So I just watched the last episode and I have got to say, awesome first season!
I like the ending. If this was the only season, I would have been totally fine with it so big thumbs up to the writers. The ending was a bit deus ex machina, but neccessary if they got only 1 season. I'm glad they didn't leave her with just airbending. We don't want her traveling the world, learning the other elements and fighting the fire nation, now do we?
There is however one thing I sorely missed this season: A non-bender perspective. through the entire season you have these equalists going about how benders are oppressing them and to be honest, I can see how people would feel threatened by this advantage. It's alluded to many times, but I would have loved to have seen a episode about the reasons behind someone joining the equalists. Aside from that, AWESOME SEASON, can't wait for the next one.

Woah air bending and energy bending in one go, niiiiiiice. But this kinda doesn't leave much for the second season. Maybe she could learn metal bending lol

Re: Legend of Korra!
You know, I don't think Korra really "knows" energybending. She can use it when she goes into the Avatar state, because Aang knew it, and the Avatar state allows you access to the combined abilities of all of the previous avatars (which is why it is so awesome, can you imagine having all the abilities of thousands of your ancestors, and oh yeah they're all EXPERT BENDERS?!). Not like she "knows" airbending or waterbending, at least.

Re: Legend of Korra!
I think the saddest part of the finale was Tarrlok's death, I never want to be put into a situation where I would consider killing my brother and me to be the best solution to a problem. It was amazing how the writers managed to turn a jerk into such a sympathetic character in a short time. (Also see case #1 Azula)
Totally accurate, except for all the times I'm not.

@ex-Lurker: Yeah, that was a really strong moment for me. Beautiful way of redemption and a great way to give closure to the conflict.

If I recall correctly, they've done voice recording for some/most of the cast. Which means there's still animation, editing, sound mixing, etc. to do. I'm guessing it won't air until 2013 at the earliest, possibly spring, more likely fall.
Re: Legend of Korra!
I want it this fall!
I thought it went
Animation-> voice acting->etc (sound music whatnot) because they needed to have the actors voice over the lips thus needing animation

Yeah, that's what I thought as well since it will be easier to voice over an already finished animation than to animate according to the recorded voices. Also I want it nooooooow

I don't know, but either way, I'm guessing it'll take at least another year.

In many animation processes, depending on the timetable and budget, the key animation is done, then the voices are recorded, and the key frames and inbetweens are edited to match the voices. It takes longer, but the result is smooth syncing.
Agree on wanting it now, even though I haven't finished Book 1. Bought it on iTunes, though, so I'm a step closer to watching it. [>.>]

This, basically.
To get the lip-syncing and facial expressions just right the animation is first finished in a rough cut (often with extra scenes and such so they have some editing leeway later on). The voice actors then voice over the rough cut. The audio then gets send back to the animators, often with footage of the voice-actor doing their lines, to finish the lip-syncing and facial animations.

Re: Legend of Korra!
I think we'll get it next spring since book 1 came out this spring and they weren't green lit for book 2 until book 1 was almost over. If they had been able to start book 2 earlier we may have gotten it this fall.

Nnnope.
A change in the working title of the show to The Legend of Korra was unveiled in March 2011, along with an announcement that the premiere would be delayed until 2012.[17] On March 7, 2011, part of the voice cast for the series was revealed,[12] and on the next day, an interview with the creators was published announcing that the series had been extended by fourteen episodes, to make a total of 26 episodes for the series. Konietzko stated, "We're really happy with that number. It allows us to focus much more closely on each episode and get a lot more craft into it."[5]
Animation on the first "season" of twelve episodes was underway as of March 2011, with initial development and voice recording for these episodes already completed. In the interview published in March 2011, DiMartino stated, "We've written all the episodes. Episodes have shipped to the overseas animations studios and they're animating away as we speak... All the vocal cast has been picked and recorded and all the scripts have been recorded.
So season 2 was greenlit sometime in March 2011, after writing, initial development, and voice recording was already completed, but animation had not yet begun.
Yes, Book 2 was greenlit before Book 1 started airing. However, book 2 was NOT greenlit before Book 1 started being made. The episodes had already been planned, recorded, and animation plans were shipped overseas when they found out they were going to get to do 14 more episodes, which is why Book 2 is going to end up being a separate deal from Book 1.
I do not understand why Nickelodeon does this, though. The original Avatar was wildly successful, in terms of both viewing numbers and sales. Why would they be so reluctant to give Brike a full 26 episode season? I don't get it.

I guess they were afraid it was lightning in a bottle and they couldn't pull it off twice. But that would mean Nickelodeon isn't the type to milk something far beyond death.

It's more likely it was because of the female lead.

I'd say this is probably it.
Which makes me want to punch a Nickelodeon executive in the face.
Does anyone actually watch the show when it airs on TV? I'm very curious to know what sort of advertising appears during commercials when it airs. Is it stuff for teen heartthrob boybands, makeup kits, and princess movies? Or toy racecars and explosions?

Why not combine the two? Blow up a few boybands and I'd probably buy a TV to watch it when it airs!

Frak that, go ten years and get the blu rays for 1/5 the price of the WHOLE show and maybe even one after that!

Hire Michael Bay to be the director and I'll hate him slightly less.
Totally accurate, except for all the times I'm not.
