Re: Incredible game music
Really, this far and no one's mentioned Bastion? edit: Someone did, just didn't name it.
I must remedy this:
Build That Wall (Zia's Theme}
Spike in a Rail
Mother, I'm Here (Zulf's Theme)
One of the biggest joys of PAX East was meeting the makers of this game, ever so briefly, and being able to thank them for this game. The soundtrack's on iTunes, I suggest gabbing it.
Also, How to Succeed in Evil is one of the best thing I've read/listened to in a long, long time.

Amazing song. <3
If I stole all the good ones, it wouldn't be a very interactive thread!
Sonic 3 - Ice Cap Zone Act 1
The start skips slightly. Can't find a perfect one.

Ok, seriously. No one has said Upstream from Braid? Or A Call to Arms from WoW? The theme music from Fable 1? Or, hell, something a bit more recent; Song of the Dragonborn (Dovahkiin) from Skyrim? For shame, forum. For shame.
I would also like to add the music from Torchlight. Some excellent sound design in that game. Really atmospheric stuff. Invokes the feel of dark, enclosed, echoing places really well. Theme/Intro/Character Select (give it a minute to build up), Town, Mines. There are a few more.

Re: Incredible game music
You know how tempted I was to put A Call To Arms in the OP? But then I'd have taken your glory of saying "I SHALL POST IT!" I did you a favour! A LOT of Oblivion and WoW music is amazing!
Including some fan music! There was a mod for Oblivion called the Celestial Aeon Project which had musicians adding music for Oblivion that ADDED to the game and blended in, rather than having it be "LISTEN TO MY WORK! LOOK AT ME!" And I really wish I could add these pieces to Skyrim too. They're astounding!

Speaking of music inspired by/based on game music; here.

I see your A Call To Arms and raise you a Legends of Azeroth
And speaking of Skyrim, been sat listening to the soundtrack of that an Oblivion for like a week straight.
One They Fear
From Past to Present
Ancient Stones
Far Horizons
Streets of Whiterun
And some Oblivion music.
Town 01
Town 05
Atmosphere 09
Atmosphere 07
And there's still plenty of other awesome songs to link.
Hurp-De-Durp!
Re: Incredible game music
I LOVE how The Streets of Whiterun is based on an Oblivion piece. Don't remember the name off-hand but that's the very reason I love it!

Re: Incredible game music
Well I've ordered the soundtrack to Skyrim. I'm sure I'll enjoy it as there were some good pieces while I was journeying through the miles of countryside. Don't know if it'll be enough to entice me to play the game again though.
Re: Incredible game music
Skyrim's soundtrack has some true beauty to it and truly amazing pieces. Although some pieces, like The Streets of Whiterun, borrow from earlier games and add a slight change in theme. Jeremy Soule is one of my top composers by a long shot!

Re: Incredible game music
The God of War series had some good, John Williams-y feeling stuff too. Really good for setting up the feel of the piece.

While your intentions are admirable, and indeed I still remember and love the music to Raptor from the heady days of the 486, may I recommend putting the title of the track with the link in the url tag?

LIVE, THREAD, LIIIIIVE!
I CALL THEE BACK FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL TO SERVE ME, QUEEN OF THE AUBERGINES!
RISE AND BREATHE ONCE MORE!
I don't know if anyone's posted it (I did a quick search and turned up nothing) but I have recently fallen in love with the Gerudo Valley theme (orchestrated) from Ocarina of Time. It massages my brain.

Re: Incredible game music
I had totally forgotten I had that CD. So good, that song particularly.
And since I never got around to posting in this thread the first time it was active, I bring to you now one of my all time favourite game soundtracks: Trine. The game's pretty good, but the soundtrack is phenomenal, to the point where 13 of my 17 most played songs are iTunes are from it. I haven't gotten the second one yet, but out of everything about it the soundtrack is what I'm most excited about.

After that song has been posted I feel obligated to post this one, from Skyward Sword and the very same CD.
Ballad of the Goddess
Also, someone decided to play the Ballad of the Goddess backwards, and the result was interesting. The video first lets you hear the song the right way around when Zelda sings it, and then backwards.

I know! I stumbled across the video and thought "Ohh! I like this scen, and the song is pretty" so I decided to listen to it, and then when it ended halfway into the video I thought "Huh? That's strange." and then it started playing backwards, and my jaw dropped. xD
