Quest for the Stanley Cup 2012
Re: Quest for the Stanley Cup 2012
We all know what the Canuck fans are hoping for....
A chance to out due last years rioting when they lose.

The entire state of Michigan is transforming from a friendly mitten into a middle finger right now.
Also, you're just mad because we stole your team:

At this rate, I'm just want the Pens to win a game. Not the series, a game.
Philly's had our number all year, almost every Pens-Flyer's game has been: Pens get lead, Flyers come back to win. Playoffs is just more of the same.

So.... this happened: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=627921
Carkner needs a suspension and Dubinsky needs a light slap on the wrist. Also, I'm now pulling for the Rangers in this one.
edit:
FUCK.
Franzen got robbed of a legitimate goal by the clock. There needs to be an "in the air" rule, because without instant replay, that'd be a goal.

This Pitt/Philly series is ridiculously good. ...Unless you're a Penguins fan, I guess.
Also; go Preds!

I'm sincerely sorry I slept through the pit/phi game. I need to make it a point to catch game 4 now.
Re: Quest for the Stanley Cup 2012
Half way through the second period and I'm already screaming at my computer. This is not looking good so far. Come on guys. Penalties killed us in Game 1 and Game 2. Have you not learned a lesson yet?? I know the refs are making some really questionable calls, but still.
I really hope Henrik's ok. And on another note, did anyone else notice that while poor Henrik was pounding on the door and being helped up, that stupid Maxim Lapierre was sitting on the door? Even when the guys poked him to move, he didn't. Uggghhh, Lapierre rubs me the wrong way.
EDIT: And right after I wrote that, Lapierre takes ANOTHER stupid penalty.

41 shots. No goals.
They can't beat Quick. The Canucks actually played pretty well (other than the stupid penalties) and had some good chances, but they can't beat him.

10 goals doesn't excuse what I saw in game 3.
I grew up in Buffalo. I'm in the market for a Sabers jersey right now...

My inner Canucks fan was ready to die a quick and painless death tonight. But then the medics showed up and put her on life support.

The longer these things last the more painful they become when they end.

Exactly. Painless because I had given up caring. Now I care again. A bit.

Re: Quest for the Stanley Cup 2012
Tapir, start caring about the summer, and wondering what's going to happen with our goalie situation, and what kind of return we'll get in trading one or the other of them.
Next year will be another interesting year, even if this one ends sooner than it should!
Next year we'll have older, wiser, stronger versions of Edler, Tanev, and Kassian, we'll have Kesler with a full summer's worth of training, we'll have a big trade return on one of our goalies... Could be fun!

Oh, I hope they don't trade Schneider. He's way too awesome. I think Luongo gets way more hate than he deserves, but Schneider just keeps impressing me. Too bad I won't get to see much if any of the game on Sunday.

Re: Quest for the Stanley Cup 2012
They will most likely trade Schneider unfortunately. Luongo's 10 year contract makes it pretty much nigh impossible to dump him or buy out. Besides, he's a great regular season goalie and still posts consistent numbers despite his relative age. You can guarantee that he'll get you to the playoffs at least.
Also we probably wouldn't even be having this conversation if it wasn't for the dude in the other net.

Re: Quest for the Stanley Cup 2012
Also Luongo has a NTC that doesn't allow trading until next year (unless he waives it, of course). OTOH, his cap hit is 5.3 million as I recall, which would be pretty manageable in a lot of spend-to-the-cap teams.
Schneider is great, of course, and due to be a #1 goalie somewhere. But you have to remember that we've only seen a small portion of his work. He could pull a Chris Mason and put up Vezina-like number in the first year and then tank after that. Sorry, Columbus.
In this series Luongo was never the problem. He never had the opportunity. You can argue that he always chokes at some point in the playoffs - and he has - but if you look at it from a cynical money-making perspective, with a decent team in front of him he's money in the bank to at least make it to the dance at the end of the season. Hello, Toronto.
For my money we need Kesler 100% physically and mentally, with some linemeates who have some damn chemistry with him, and a true #1-with-a-bullet defenceman. Something in the Suter-Weber-Chara-Lidstrom class. Edler does NOT count, as we've seen.

Re: Quest for the Stanley Cup 2012
Re: Schneider pulling a Steve Mason (not Chris Mason; he's a different goalie), remember that Mason was just a kid that first year, while Schneider is 25 or 26 and has a couple of years of consistent strong play under his belt. Not very comparable, IMO.
I say if Luongo feels at all like he'd rather play somewhere else, the Canucks will move him. It'll be up to him, though. The Canucks won't directly ask him to waive his NTC, but they'll be interested in hearing how he feels about it.
