TRON: Uprising

Postby Nomadic » 18 May 2012, 15:32

So the prologue to the upcoming show TRON: Uprising has been released on YouTube...and I'll be honest, I went from "meh" to "ZOMG" after about five minutes. If you have about 30 min to burn, do go give the show a look. It might not appeal to everyone, but I personally find the darker tones and innovative cinematography to be quite reminiscent of Batman: The Animated Series (a complement of the highest order from my world). The music isn't from Daft Punk this time (sadface), but it appears as though the soundtrack from TRON: Legacy was a key source of inspiration to whoever did do the music.

Obviously, time will tell if the series is a success or a flop, but personally, I'm hoping things work out. It's been a long time since I've seen something as innovative as the art direction from TRON: Legacy (and now likewise with TRON: Uprising), and Hollywood should really work on utilizing it further.

That's my opinion though. How about yours? :)

Oddly enough, I had no problems watching from the UK.

Not sure I'd want to follow the series tho. It does seem to be Batman Beyond with the numbers filed off plot-wise, and uses a combination of cel-shaded CGI and mapped on animation that doesn't really mesh for me.

Looked interesting... I hope it doesn't conflict with the storyline of the movie.

Edit: on the youtube comments people are talking about other Tron series or something I haven't heard of, Betrayal and Evolution, not seen either of these!

I am moderately annoyed by the major character retcon, but I assume they'll fix that by series end.

Evolution was the tie-in console game for Tron:Legacy, unusually for a tie-in product it's actually a prequel set during the war for the Grid rather than during events from the movie itself.

Betrayal was a comic book focusing on Kevin Flynn building the grid with Clu and on Clu's eventual betrayal.

Evolution and Betrayal were both produced during film production to strongly tie into Tron:Legacy.
