If your budget is only $400, you're not getting much of anything. Better to put it away and use public computers for a year while you save up for something that'll last more than 2 or 3 years.

Hi, by the way, there's an Introduce Yourself thread somewhere around here.

Seems odd to just drop in and post this... Clever bot building post count?

Or I'm insulting a new member - sorry if that's the case.

My $330 Dell netbook is still (slowly) going after three years.

My $350 HP netbook is still going after the same. It's just nigh-unusable because current programs require more of the hardware than it can give, and I'm talking about web browsers and word processors, whereas the $650 Gateway notebook I have from seven years ago is just beginning to have the same problem. It is interesting to note, also, that they have the same specifications, except for the model line of the processor. Same chipset, same HDD capacity, same RAM, same processor speed, same wifi card.

Spend a little extra money, get more use out of your purchase, make it last longer, and save money in the long run.

Samuel Vimes wrote:The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This was the Captain Samuel Vimes ‘Boots’ theory of socio-economic unfairness.

I like the Asus Eee PC R11CX.

10 inches, very lightweight. I like laptops to be small and leave the power to the desktops.

Netbooks seem less useful now that phones have the same processing power and screen resolution.

Also, they now have phones that can hook up to a netbook and be the same speed/faster. with better internet capabilities too.

This. Unless you need to do mobile word processing or you're going to find actual terminals few and far between, you'll be better off just using a phone.

Thanks everyone for the comments! Sorry for not being here for some time...
Well, I will need lots of typing so I do need a netbook. Some you suggestions are ok for me, especially Asus one. I think I will stop my search on it.
Thanks one more time!
