The Internet is Everywhere
I was thinking today and realised something, thanks to the invention of smartphones, laptops, tablets etc. I have posted to this forum from locations nigh on impossible to do so from when it was first started. So I was wandering, what unusual locations have people posted here from? In the past few weeks I can think of:
Work
A moving train
A stationary Train
A train station
Bed
The toilet
Local Games Club
A bus stop
A takeaway while waiting for my order
Anyone else doing this? Just me?

Re: The Internet is Everywhere
I have the internet IN MY PANTS! Seriously, I do. My phone gets 3G and has access to the internet. I can access it basically wherever I want to. Thogh I can't think of anywhere odd that I have.
The only semi-strange place I've accessed wi-fi though is on an airplane. They had a built-in wifi service. It was nice until the 'trial' ran out. Then they wanted like $20 for the rest of a flight that only lasted a few hours.

Re: The Internet is Everywhere
It's kind of frightening knowing that the phone I keep in my pocket is more powerful than some of the computers I've owned in the past. And since my parents had Dial-up until I was a freshman in college, my phone also has a faster connection than the internet I was using for ohhh, about 10 years.

Why would you be posting from the toilet ...... ? Actually...nevermind. I don't think I want to know. *teasing*
I don't think I've ever really posted on here from anywhere particularly strange. I've browsed while I've been at work or at the previously mentioned games club but that's about it.

It's probably easier to list the locations I haven't used the Internet from.

If we're talking about the internet in general I have used it while on trains, while in convention centers, while hiking, while at work.....and a feck ton of other places too. All from my phone. Pretty crazy when you think about it.

Hey, I do some of my best posting from the toilet.
And now you will never be able to read one of my posts without somewhere in the back of your mind wondering if I was mid stream while typing it.

I actually still get a small bit of glee on backcountry trips where we lose any cell reception for days at a time and you just turn everything off. Calming.

Re: The Internet is Everywhere
I actually get the same thing in the States because I don't bother to get a roaming credit and just get the odd wifi at a coffee shop every couple days.
I'm going to be the dad that takes kids on camping trips (that they hate). "It'll be fun! We'll make a fire and go fishing!"
No, no, you can all feel free to slither back into your basements.

Re: The Internet is Everywhere
It always saddens me when I try to go cold turkey from the internet for a while only to then realize just HOW much I use it. It's kinda depressing when you think about how reliant on it you are.

And I absolutely do want to be like Calvin's Dad (and tell my kids BS stories about things when I don't know how they work).

Pretty crazy when you think about, until you actually think about it. Smartphones are just small computers with telephony capacities, and be prepared to kiss your using-of-internet-anywhere goodbye, as available frequencies for transmitting data over radio are running out at same time as the amount of videos of cats being transmitted into peoples phones is exponentially increasing it's welcome to clusterfuck-town, population everyone relying on wireless data.

Re: The Internet is Everywhere
Not so, as more frequencies are being used others are closing and being auctioned off, in the UK we are mid way through the old analogue TV frequencies being auctioned off for mobile phone networks to use and the same is expected to happen for radio in the next few years.
You can expect pretty much any broadcasting bar Internet to go in the next few years as more services move to Internet streaming instead of radio broadcasting.

Weirdest place for me would be in the living-room but from my TV, through a console. It's not something I would have imagined not too long ago.

Weirdest place: From the bed of a hotel room in a different country.

Yawn, wireless internet connections might get a bit slower, or not speed up anymore, but it's not like it will suddenly stop working.
Seriously, this is not going to be the apocalypse a lot of people are making it out to be.

Walking past the prison, on the way to work?
In the middle of a heated discussion, in a restaurant (I won that one, by the way. Thank you wikipedia)?
Waiting for a friend at the train station? On a coach in the middle of the country?
Whales (train journey back from an interview)?
