Because it's not a phrase, right? Because the actual phrase is "intents and purposes". Which MAKES SENSE. >.<

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
"for all intents and purposes", to be strictly accurate, but yeah. When I was a kid, I'd wondered what 'intensive' purposes were, then by the time I got to college, I'd read the phrase used properly in text somewhere, compared the alternatives, put two and two together and got an even answer.
So I'd mentioned my landlord is getting the kitchen remodeled. The carpenter (my brother) is in the process of assembling a mini-counter/cabinet thingy in the spot where the fridge used to be, and he's varnishing pieces of wood in preparation of putting them into the finished product...and he's varnishing them in the basement workroom/furnace room...just on the other side of the wall from our bedroom. The whole basement apartment smells of varnish, and I think this is why I still have a headache when my abdominal pains have completely subsided.
Dunno why he couldn't have done this "in a well-ventilated area"...like the large, clear deck the landlord has out back. Yes, it was snowing earlier, but that cleared off hours ago, before he came over to do his evening's work after supper.
Gonna have to get a fan set up in the bedroom...
ADDENDUM: I just realized that 'the VENTING thread' would be of use to me in a manner most do not expect.

I dislike the English language. Because it comprises of 100s of other languages into one soup, sometimes the logic break downs.
Also people seem to hate me inventing new words. Yet Shakespear did this.

Could not care less.
It means that there is nothing you care about less. Otherwise you're saying that you can care less, therefore you already care somewhat.

...to be fair, could care less is likely more accurate. If they comment on something with could care less, that means they cared enough to comment. So they could care less in theory.

To be honest, I was just waiting for Fayili to pick up on that, but she didn't.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
English is one of the most pig ugly languages to hear, and it annoys me that when I invent new words to "help it flow better" vocally, grammar angry people get, well... angry.
Look, I'm improving the language and making it more artistically sounding. Hunt the twerp that says blates and 'well jell' who are in fact making the language sound worse.
Cellerdoor is the only good sounding English word.
Songs with two versions, English and none-english, always sound better in none-English.

Probably because you are not Shakespeare.

This one is probably the quickest way to end a conversation with me. Especially when I try to explain why "could care less" makes no sense and they stare at me blankly like I'm speaking in some really complex science jargon. Sometimes I'm convinced that people are more related to parrots than they are anything else.

So in till I write 38+ plays and sonnets, I can't get away with bad spelling and word inventiveness?

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
I am oblivious to girls liking me.
This is generally a good thing, what with the whole having a fiancée business and all... but when one such girl who I was friends with and who didn't realise I was in a relationship was looking for a housemate and my girlfriend was looking to move over here so I suggested they move in together...
Yeah. It explains why she's been acting kind of cold to my girlfriend since they moved in. But now I feel like kind of a jerk. Bleh.

Lets start with the word until, not in till, and work your way up to plays and sonnets.

Okay, I'll be honest here and say I genuinely thought the phrase was "intensive purposes".
This explains why I never really use that phrase that much.

Few guys at my school have spent the last year banging on about Benecassim, but I'm not sure that applies to metalheads.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
Fucking goddamn computers and virtual machines. I was working on a final for one of my classes, and ran into a problem. The Windows 7 VM wasn't getting a certificate from a Windows Server 2008 R2 box for some reason. It wasn't part of the domain yet, but that was the point of this certificate. So I began to check why it might not be working.
And check.
And check.
And check.
And check.
And check.
And check.
And then it was there.
I didn't change anything. I only looked at some settings. But more than 45 minutes after I started checking things, it magically showed up. After 45 minutes of me sitting there, slowly getting more and more frustrated, of my teacher saying something wasn't configured right (with a smirk), and all while needing to use the restroom but not wanting to stop since I wanted to complete it today (the next class is going to be a WEEK FROM MONDAY. I DIDN'T WANT TO FREAKING FORGET WHAT I'D DONE BY THEN). I was furious.
And it wasn't just me. Someone else had the same problem. Fixed it by making a new Win7 box and had it work instantly.
So guess what? I didn't get it fucking done because of that goddamn glitch. Not to mention, when I was leaving, I was having more problems with it. So I get to go back to those in a week and a half too. FUN.
I'm still quite pissed off, largely since it seems like most of the problems we're having are due to the computers not being able to handle the VMs very well.
