Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
So as a fun follow up to my previous rant. I met one of the other guys that this same bartender spurned off hand, (at another bar). It would seem we live in a small world...
I know her colors now quite well.
So some background because I need to get this unfortunate situation off m chest.
nearly 3 weeks ago now I had a rather startling emotional break down. I went to the bar (as I had posted here) because the psych office on my university campus was closed.
I met a girl there that seemed my type that turned out to be a bartender. She seemed fair as spring and plenty smart besides. We talked at length and I discovered that she was an artist and a lover of classic American literature. we hung out some and she seemed keen enough on me. But then one evening I was worried she might drink herself into a stupor and be at risk of driving or being driven under the influence. after a few rebuffs she finally told me she was a lesbian then her "girlfriend" told me to back off, and was very rude about it. to the point of being intentionally hurtful.
Now then I'm not the most impassive of individuals and was easily wounded by this assault. It took some time but I felt like I was over her and her insincerity.
Tonight I met a guy who had dated this woman and coincidentally heard about from the duplicitous woman's own mouth. He seems a fine sort of person and not at all like she painted him.
We live in quite the small world, when it comes to college towns.
Basically she enjoys toying with others. She is conniving cur. Armed with this knowledge I feel like I can once again enjoy this particular establishment without fear of reprisal so long as I am in the company of the other rejected gentleman to keep her fiendish personality at bay.
basically tl:dr
I'm not the first this bitch wronged.

So across from us is an Indian guy in a suit with no company. He's quite a happy guy! Enjoying the music, drinking light!
Then one of them says "Look at the state of that. That is just sad. What's he doing here anyway?"
"Right. That's it. You two, fuck off. Fucking terrible the way you spoke about that guy. He's a few steps away and probably heard you!"
So they do the shuffle of shame away from me and the guy sits next to me and says "Thank you. We need more people like you in the world." Then he hands me a drink and walks off again.
One of the many reasons I don't go out at night.
Sorry you had to experience that, and that you were forced to do what you did, but I think you should be in the Thread of Win (no, not this post/annecdote, YOU) because the Indian guy's right - we DO need more people like you in the world.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
It really baffles me that in 2013, I still have to explain to full-grown adults why referring to someone or something as "retarded" when they're trying to say the person/thing in question is slow or stupid, is extremely offensive to abled and disabled people alike.
It completely dumbfounds me, though, when those same people try to say that people who are offended by such hateful speech are "the vast minority."
Have they perfected interplanetary WiFi yet? Because there's no way the people I'm speaking to can be living on the same planet as me.

The Telecoms Company I hired to connect my tropical island paradise to the internet have thus far failed to do so. They have 2 hours before their promised connection date ends, at which point they will be placed against the wall and shot!

They're Newfoundlanders, TK - we're parochial and backward:
"Newfoundland - thirty minutes ahead in time zones, thirty days behind in climate, and thirty years behind in culture."
On the plus side, we should be getting Swatches, acid wash jeans, neon EVERYTHING and Nu Wave music here any day now!
Seriously though, I don't think the majority of the people in this province accept homosexuality yet; it's going to be SOOO much fun when their tiny, simple minds have to open up to conceive of something like "transgenderism"...

Yet somehow, every single person I've met from Newfoundland is universally awesome.

It actually wasn't Newfies, it was just a bunch of idiots online. Presumably mostly Americans who all seem to live in the 1950's.
The ironic part is that if I had gone into the same chatroom and said "man, the weather is sooo fucking gay," they would have ripped me to shreds. But they can't comprehend in any way, shape, or form how a differently abled person could be offended by them referring to something as being "so fucking retarded."
I think I'm pretty lucky as far as the gay thing is concerned because I've only ever run in two circles; the gay people, and the dog people, half of whom are also gay, and the rest of which are all pretty open-minded and logical. I imagine if I actually got involved in any other groups I wouldn't be so lucky.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
I kind of enjoy when someone calls me (or someone I know (or a video game etc.) retard/ed because most bystanders do not begrudge me (as a person who is autistic) giving them a scathing lecture on what it means to be mentally ill and how they ought to treat others.
On the note of homosexuality, I am friend of friends with with someone who is bisexual. I am Christian and believe homosexuality is wrong but I do not think that the person is any worse than I am. I find that the sins that people like to go after are the ones that they are not involved in.

No, because it's the venting thread and we can't be hypocrites, now can we?

Yeah, just let it lie. We don't want another thread locked. We're all smart enough to know there's no way we're going to change his opinion.

I dream of the day when I can go an extra 10 km/hr on the F3. Going 90 on a 110 is so draining. I like seeing my family gaw dang it! The less time committed to driving, the better.

I would rage here about punctuation in a specific setting (not here) but... I think I've started to care less? And that actually makes me quite sad.

Punctuation has never been a strong suit of mine. So if you have that need to teach better use of punctuation, please nitpick away!

That's how they get me sucked back into Facebook. Pretty girls with grammar rants. They know my weakness!

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
That is actually a constant irritation of mine. I have a lot of friends who couldn't spell correctly to save their lives (looking at you RedNightmare). I often spend a few minutes typing and erasing my post again when seeing a text like that. Often I decide to let it slide, but lots of frustrations every time.
