Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
@Merry all the hugs in the world I offer to you. Losing a pet sucks.
Uh, so, today I went into town and there was a smell in the air that seemed like a cross between burning rubber and what can only be described as unwashed vagina. It got worse as I approached the university.
Sometimes the smell of manure blows in from the north but this was something else. Something truly disgusting.
And now the tap water is coming out yellow. A nice, rich yellow the colour of apple juice. Or urine.
Now normally one would suspect rust but this happened out of nowhere, which is ... a little suspect. And it doesn't seem to be getting any better even as we let it run.
Something weird's going on.

Seriously, having two essays due twelve hours apart is NOT fun. First one's done, but could use serious proofing. Time to START the second. Uuuugh.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
well last night was hard. was caught in perpetual imaginations. i can't look at where she lay a lot. it hurts.
-
I was taken to see where my parents buried her whilst I had my driving lesson. It helps me be able to stay in the room she spent a lot of her final weeks.
I think its because she died in that room. Knowing that she is now resting outside makes the room of where she lived. Oppose to where she lived and died. I am still sad.
I think it will take some time as I was there when she died. I was stroking her, comforting her. If I was not there, all I would have had to deal with was guilt. But no. I chose a more initial traumatic method, but in return I am at peace with regards to her. All I have to do now is manage this void which she has left. At least she died of old age naturally. If she was run over/ill when younger I would have had emotions of anger, vengeance, bitterness. At least all I have is grief. I just hope my perspective can be of one more optimistic. So that perhaps we can give a good life to another cat who had a very shit start.
Understandably I un-installed Mass Effect because lets be honest, I don't want to experience that emotional roller coaster ever again.

Every single day, I load up all my games (WoW, Steam, etc.) to see if there are any updates to download. There rarely are.
But of course, the one day in weeks that I actually have a little free time and think I might play a little Skyrim, now Steam wants to update for an hour. God fucking damnit.

Okay, LRR has been admirably open-minded in the tone and subject matter of discussions here, but what I'm about to delve into, especially just after their annual charity fundraiser for sick children is...well, it's NC-17, so "spoilers, sweetie"
I was browsing through tumblr to find some nice pics to post in 'soothing cuteness', when I happened upon a pic of a naked lady that my wife had reblogged (hey, some women like porn as well; deal ;P ), and I recognized the model's name mentioned in the description below the pic...
...then I saw the watermark on the pic itself was something like "ilovematureladies.com" or something...
...but I remembered seeing this same model on 'barely legal' sites not long...well, it wasn't YESTERDAY but...then I looked closer and didn't quite recognize her, and her hair is darker, and...
OH.
MY.
GOD.
EVEN THE PORN I FOLLOW ISOLD!

Something weird's going on.
1) don't drink the water
2) call in board of health or equivalent.
3) get someone to look at the pipes. I remember a school or something nearby being closed because a sewage pipe had ruptured and somehow ended up overspilling into the water supply.

The water is clear again but I'm still a little skeptical. I can't find anything relevant in the news that would explain any of this. I still doubt it was our pipes because this has never been a problem before... but thanks for the advice anyway, I think I will still call someone about it.
Now, for today's frustration:
"After federal changes to waterways rules, 90 per cent of protected lakes lap on Conservative shores."
Just read it. It's pretty infuriating, like something out of a Scooby Doo episode. If federal protection of waterways is as inconsequential as they're making it out to be then why protect those 97? This isn't something to piss around with, guys.

The water in my apartment did that just before the hot water bit the dust. Check with your landlord, might be a hot water tank issue.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
I don't like group work. I really don't. In my entire life I have very rarely been a group member despite my inclusion in groups, I've always been a resource, someone you hurl tasks at and get hissy when it doesn't return to your standards, however little you may have informed me of them or discussed them with me. It is a position I despise, being reduced to a simple automaton to be barked orders at, and rather defeating of the purpose of being in a group.
I can't do presentations, they are in essence an impossibility for me, to stand infront of a large group of attentive people, eyes glaring at me from all sides, and deliver an intelligent and effective treatment of the facts at hand. Parts of this are medical, others due to some of the darker elements of my history. I freely admit I do much better alone than in a team, but the course demands it of me and so I'm doing my best to work something useful out.
I didn't want to be in the group for these presentations. I didn't choose it, it wasn't discussed with me, and given the option of entering a team consisting of someone I've never conversed with at all even now and the person I've just spent the past half hour arguing with, I very likely would have chosen against it. I was enlisted into this group against my will and it stands very much to reason that I'm not happy with that situation.
Each presentation is worth 20% of our marks and we have performed one to to the tune of 10% overall, where the key piece of criticism was that it did not seem like the work of three people. That critique is accurate, it wasn't, person #3 went away, researched the exercise, then dumped it all on myself and the mystery man, having created a solution, a code, and a presentation guide. By this time, we had little choice but to use her work.
Now, we have a second presentation. Due Thursday. I don't know mystery man's name, or any of his contact details, so I contact person #3. She is in Portugal visiting a friend, despite apparently putting passing the year above everything. Despite apparently being the most responsible person in the group, to her own attestations.
And apparently she expects me, the person she shanghaied into working with her without my consultation or agreement, to work with mystery man whose inclusion in the group came before any discussion about groups at all with me and whom I've heard nothing from in over a month, to complete the presentation before she returns from Portugal the day beforehand.
And she is of the opinion that I am lazy, unwilling to cooperate with the group, and generally disinterested in achieving any mark at all in this module, which is in actuality my favourite and key to my third and final year in the course.
In the course of the argument, she even had the audacity to suggest that my grasp of language is compensation for, and I quote, "something more than [my] height". I did thankfully manage to restrain myself from going equally below the belt, as there are certainly more than a few choice insults to pass her way, and she is considered by many to be one of the most unpleasant individuals to stalk the campus with very good reason.
I asked why she was in Portugal before the term had ended, and was told that whilst it was none of my business (funny, a third of the team leaves the country right before an important presentation, and it's not the business of the remaining two thirds to at least know why...) she had gone to visit a friend and that the timing was because it was the only time they (the friend) could get away from work. So the most responsible member of the team, and indeed the only one with full contact details of the rest of it, leaves the country, right before a presentation, to see a friend, despite holding her grades chief above all else. I've seen fan fiction with better logic.
Yes, clearly I'm irresponsible when I ask for contact details of the rest of the group after a third of it leaves the country to go see a friend, having monopolised the work of an entire team the last time we actually all spoke to one another.
*I have no clue who this is, the moment seemed unsuited to inquire

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
So.... November 23th, I'm completely moved in, happy and what not. Two days later I find one of my two roommates (michael) is fired, the one down below in the first story room. He has til friday to move out and go. As of today, he's still here. Since then its been TERRIBLE. He smokes inside (against the rules), he's eaten ALL of my food, I bought a loaf of bread had four of it and its all gone. Bought a pack of 3 chicken breasts, I had one, he left my mozzarella cheese out and it went bad, drank a half bottle of jim bean the day after he was fired instead of getting a job (he did two days later the 28th). When I moved in, I brought 4 rolles of TP with me, nice 2ply stuff. We had 2 upstairs already and one downstairs bathroom. Thats 7 all together, (shut up just saying) well two weeks later the upstairs is out one morning I wake up, I open up the cabinet beneath to get the first of the four rolls and theres ONE left, my other roommate (craig) said he never used one meaning SOMEHOW, one person has used at least four rolls.
So saturday comes by and I'm expecting him gone, nope. He has no place to live as his new job has no places yet. I'm like whatever I'll be nice. However he's still smoking inside and it drifts RIGHT to my room. He KNOWS he's supposed to outside but no, not even when he was employed and could go outside. So monday comes around (3rd) and I'm annoyed as I have been WAITING to move down there and in the meantime michael has moved his stuff upstairs to craigs room save for his PS3 and tv and LOCKS his door when he leaves so nobody can go inside. FUCK. Craig also said he would tell clifton (head HR dude) that michael visits during the day and leaves at night. So monday rolls around and the head maintenance guy stops me at work and asks if michael is still here, I answer no but nod my head, he says that he has til tuesday to get out or NPS is coming for a visit. I inform craig and he asks how mickey (the maintenance guy) knows and I say I don't know (don't want to start with craig, he's not BAD per se). I do remind craig that both our jobs are on the line as well with us still housing him. Well, as of today (3 days later) he's STILL here. I just got back from some shopping while I was out of town and put most of it in my fridge as I got one off my bro.
So to sum, since I've moved here this dude has been fired, eaten my food, drank my liquor (most people left here but my GULDENDRAAK while I was gone!), done nothing but get drunk off 40's he buys, takes my TP (and ASKS for more since craig had diarrhea and used the rest, I bought some while out of town), and is right now drunk cooking downstairs, AND won't let me have my room.
I was going to call the HR dude to just “swing by” on my way out of town but had he seen inside craigs room looking at michaels stuff, he would have seen the 40s CRAIG drinks and craig is only 19 resulting in an immediate termination. Think I should call mickey tomorrow to come over with NPS? I really don't want to because 1) it might cause tension with craig and I WORK with him too 2) I as well might get in trouble.

Yep... definitely drunk. Just went down to fetch the wings I was baking and there's a nice splash of ground beef and green chili sauce on the floor with a hint on the wall next to it as well as small splashes along the way and him leaning over the arm of his chair "eating" it... Fuck.

Oh yeah, probably the most absurd part of that argument?
She kept asking for my phone number as the excuse for the lack of communication, and repeating that I'm either no in classes or speedily exit them (after packing up a laptop and navigating the horrific crowds, speedy as a glacier I think).
All while talking to me in real-time from another continent.

Better for you to call them now so they know what is happening is happening against your objections (even if you never actually objected) than have them show up and assume that you have been a part of it from the beginning.

Trying to get accustomed to our new cat. It doesn't help new cat is different from our old cat.
Nor is our old cat's named being Puss or The Cat. It makes referring to the new cat painful. Trying to think of a good name.

I'm a little pissed because I tweaked my back lifting this week and, while I'm no hypochondriac, when it comes to the back, I would like to see a doctor ASAP. Better than years of issues down the line.
Of course, I'm frantically studying for the GRE, so I don't really have time for that. Dangit.

I can not fully express the worry, upset and outrage I feel about what has happened to a close friend of mine in the US. Shortly after getting a new job he got a a sinus infection. He were miss-prescribed the wrong dosage of a drug. It put him in hospital. His employers fired him for not being able to work, terminating his health insurance before it started. He has a $60000 hospital bill. Because he got one pay check from his employer, he does not qualify for any medicare assistance. He is flat broke, and can't afford cab fare let alone a lawyer.

WHY!!!! WHYYYYYYY!!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Damn it Korea!!! Why do you only have shoes that are too small for me. The largest I have found is 280mm(9.5 in US) and I'm a bloody 300mm(12 in US)!!!!!!!! I'm seriously peeved about this because my shoes are kinda worn now and I might need a new one soon.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
So I'm currently living over a garage. Recently this garage came to house a rather nice Mercedes-Benz. This is a relatively new development (the car, not me living here) so I've been mentioning it to people when they ask about my life. Rarely have I been so close to something so expensive, so it's kind of interesting.
Anyway, I decided to mention it to my mom and, well, this happened:
Yes... that's all I have to do. If only someone had told me sooner, I could have saved so much time and effort. Here I've been trying to figure out the key to success in life. If I had known it was that simple, just get a well-paying job doing something I enjoy, I could've saved myself a lot of grief.
As I said to her, "In this economy I'll be lucky if I get a job I don't hate that lets me lead an independent life."
Also I'm not the type to go on spending sprees anyway, even if I had millions of dollars. I'm quite fiscally conservative minus my habit of giving money to the homeless/charity. I already said I wasn't interested in the car but she still threw in that one comment.
I don't know precisely why I'm offended but I am.
Anyway, I decided to mention it to my mom and, well, this happened:
[4:51:07 PM] Aubergine: the mercedes costs like <price>
[4:51:14 PM] Aubergine: and doesn't have a scratch on it
[4:51:56 PM] Aubergine: I'd never want to own one, not much sense owning a fast car if you've got nowhere to drive it, we're in southern ontario ffs
[4:53:31 PM] Mom: I would never spend that kind of money on a car regardless of who made it or how fast it could go even if I had millions in the bank. It's a waste of money to own something like that in southern ontario where as you say you can't really drive it anywhere really fast
[4:53:42 PM] Mom: It belongs on the autobahn
...
[4:54:49 PM] Mom: well, it all depends on your priorites in life and whether you can afford the expensive toys
[4:56:06 PM] Aubergine: <boyfriend> is like me in that he sort of just wants a comfortable life too
[4:56:16 PM] Aubergine: I mean like I said I don't want the mercedes it's just interesting to look at
[4:57:18 PM] Mom: first you have to get a well paying job that you enjoy doing so you will want to keep doing it then you can go on a spending spree
Yes... that's all I have to do.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
As much as I found losing my Puss heart breaking, I think I am going to miss having no responsibilities that comes with being in crippling mourning. I am getting better, and I am going to have to face taking responsibilities of doing stuff around the house and getting my future rolling again.
I regressed to a child upon the event. And now I am having to grow up to an adult again.
Just after I had just managed to get into being an adult.
