Why not? Other then not actually having a '20' I don't know of any difference to a normal d20.
Re: LRR Meme Generators
Yeah, and it's not like it's confusing when the symbol comes up. Everyone knows it means 20.

Re: LRR Meme Generators
Spin down life counters are numbered differently, life counters number rotationally so that each number is next to the next in sequence; 1 is next to 2 is next to 3, 4, 5 etc.
D20 are patterned so that each opposing set of numbers add up to 21 and that numbers are not next to any others in sequence with them. They are designed to generate a random roll where as a spindown counter is not. Really a life counter is not much less random and whether you can use them as such depends on your GM but seeing as my D&D group spends just as much time playing magic and our GM does not allow use of life counters as D20 I guess it irritates me as it's something I've been taught not to do.

We take our random number generators seriously around these parts.

Re: LRR Meme Generators
I get that the numbers are in another order (which I didn't know), but I don't get why it should matter, it's going to be just as random no matter where you put the numbers.
Does make me wonder why they give their counter a d20 shape if they don't intend them to work the same as other d20s, though. Especially since you can get over 20 hp pretty easily. They could have a small abacus or something and it would be more helpful for counting life. I always assumed they gave d20 specifically so people could use them in tabletop RPGs, otherwise it's not the most practical way to count.

Because the counter is sequential rather than spread, the odds of getting a high or low roll are basically 50/50 based on which way up the die lands. It's a lot more varied with an actual d20.

The odds of getting a high or low roll are always 50/50. But I think I understand your point, it's easier to cheat by knowing which side has the higher roll and throwing your dice so it ends up facing up.

This was a decision of mine I made in my first campaign. And it sounded much simpler in my head.
