Shameful Self Promotion...But With Good Cause

Postby Preacher » 13 Aug 2012, 18:35

So I'm graduating at the end of this year from university. But before I can do that I need to do my graduating project. As it turns out, they want you to work for you degree. So with that,

Team Castle Greyskull Presents....Ethical Eating: Consensus Within Controversy

Essentially its "advocating a tiny change to our weekly diet which will exponentially help the environment, your health and your financial wellbeing as a uni student! By simply cutting down our meat consumption for two or three days/meals per week"

What it basically means is switching meat for veggies two or three times a week. And the point of me telling you people about this is that we're running a BBQ at lunchtime on Wendsday the 22nd of August, so in 8 days, at Victoria University Footscray Campus, outside A building at the BBQ's there.

There will be free giant ass mushroom 'burgers'. Seriously, there is no charge for the food or anything, we are collecting donations, but the main purpose is for us to pass Uni and collect footage for a documentary. Oh yeah, we have a totally real and legitimate, and not in anyway fake or fradualant camera crew taking footage, and if you can/want, a short 3 question interview for the documentary to show at the end of the year as proof.

Also we have a Facebook page so you know we're legit

Okay,

... so where do you harvest ass mushrooms? Are they fed on donkey excrement? Or do they grow on the glutes of human peons?

Sorry. It was just... there. I had to ask.

Applause on trying to make a change for the better; the world certainly needs more of that. That being said; how does skipping high-bv, protein with superior nitrogen balance twice a week benefit your health?

I was under the impression that humans where omnivores and that for most people a vegetarian diet was perfectly healthy.

Healthy? Absolutely. Healthier than eating a balanced, well-considered omnivorous diet? No.

I don't think he was advocating a fully vegetarian diet, just a reduction in meat intake to 4-5 days of the week instead of 7.

Also, this;

Pretty much this, instead of eating meat 7 days a week, just change 3 meals from meat to veggies. And another thing to take into account is that where trying not to a) shove this sort of thing down anyones throat, and b) not come across as Preachey and holier-than-thou. If where were advocating for a full vegetarian diet, we'd be hypocrits, as I'm not a vegetarian, this just seems like a good idea to me

No no, you're not coming off as preachy at all; and your hearts are clearly in the right place. You're trying to take a small step to make the world a better place for everyone, and that is totally admirable. It's just a pet peeve as mine how many people think that vegetarianism is more healthy than an omnivorous diet. Its a common belief, but it doesn't really stand up to scrutiny.

So what I'm getting is that my wonderful and brilliant PR plan has been foiled by the fact everyone is either busy or dying of plague.....

Well at least I have mushrooms with which to gorge upon, so there.

Or your plan is foiled by posting a thread in a community where most of the people don't live in Australia.

Well, you made me crave mushroom burger and I ended up eating out with friends at a vegetarian resturaunt with the intent of getting a mushroom/bean burger. But I got a spinach foldover with Chi Chi. I was a little disappointed the Chi Chi was not a drag queen (Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar!) but it was very tasty. So there is that.

And with that, the BBQ was a success. Between inspiring your futile search for giant ass mushroom burgers, to us running out of mushrooms in under an hour. Means we win all the things. All. The. Things.

Glasd to hear it went well. And hey, my friends and I kind of joined in by eating vegetarian that night! So your influence is expanding! And now that I know about that resturaunt and how delicious it is, I will probably end up going there more when I have the funds.
