PAX Prime 2012 Meetup – Kind Of!

Postby Graham » 21 Aug 2012, 22:12

I started this as a new thread for maximum exposure.

Hey all! Here's the deal with PAX this year:
We are not planning an official LRR meetup, but we really encourage you guys to!

Let me explain.
We originally started doing the LRR+PAX meetups because, beyond the panel, there was no way to find us or really say hi. The meetups were awesome!

But, things have changed a bunch, and this year we have:
  • A super-long panel night for extended observing of our faces and bodies.
  • Our appearance at the WotC booth for 2 hours every day, for all your MtG needs.
  • And (the important one) a table in Bandland where we'll basically be at every other time, and at which we encourage you to come by and chat with us!

Basically, we are super busy at PAX, often with things that already involve meeting you :)

We've also noticed over the last few PAX events that the meetups are just as important for you guys to meet other you guys.

So! We recommend you plan a meetup, set a time and a place, if we can swing by we will, if not, you can find us as listed above.
Or just stop us walking around and say hi! Unless we have to be somewhere right then, we'll take a photo or whatever.

Hope to see you there, one way or another!

All in favor of mobbing the LRR booth at a predetermined time (of which they will be unaware)?

Celebrities, man! Pretty soon you'll need to break out the Nathan Fillion cards! ;)
Walk in like DeNiro, and leave like Brando.

Sounds like a plan! Everyone bring some club soda for the crew!

I hadn't seen those! That's quite brilliant. I like that he only did that if he did actually have to be somewhere though.

Like I said, that's the only thing that would make us not stop.
I usually do a, "I have to go here now, but you're welcome to walk with me!"

My vote for the meetup would be for early Saturday afternoon (I guess that's when it's traditionally been?). That way there will be enough time to meet before some of us go to Tally's panel or your hours at the WotC booth. I can understand you guys not wanting to be away from your booth for too long, and I think if several of us show up at the LRR booth all at once it could be disruptive to the other booths in Bandland.

I'm not familiar with the layout of the WSCC - but is there someplace *near* the booth we could have a meetup? Then that way none of LRR has to go very far, and in the interest of not leaving the booth unmanned, you guys could rotate out... or something? Just spitballing here ;)

Additionally, and if we're not too tired, would anyone be interested in a bar meetup? One of my best and favorite moments of the weekend at PAX East was that Sunday night playing Cards Against Humanity in the hotel bar with LRR and several others, and I'd love to do it again it we could :)

But anyway! In conclusion... Meetup Saturday afternoon, 1 or 2pm? Near the LRR booth?

There's usually room near Bandland to do something like that, yeah. The only other things in the near vicinity are beanbag chairs and handheld players.

And as long as the bar doesn't have an age limit to walk in!

My favorite memory from Pax east was the bar meet up when matt sat next to me his drink smelled SOO good as did his breath. I was like "this is going to sound weird and I know we just met, but will you just stay next to me and talk"

Saturday afternoon is good with me. I think Friday, I won't be getting in until early afternoon. There's not too much I'm interested in so I'll hit the industry floor, grab some freebies, go out with the wife for the night. Saturday is all PAX.

Saturday afternoon sounds good to me as well. If it's a bar that doesn't have an age limit to walk into I'd be super cool with that as well. Won't be able to drink in America until next PAX East.

Also, to make up for having to accommodate me I'd buy the first round and get myself a ginger-ale or something.

I wont be there but I would like to suggest

By going there and spending your money you would be essentially supporting L.R.R. Just imagine the every dollar you spend goes directly into the Card Kingdom give away on the L.R.R. drafts sponsored by Card Kingdom.

Card Kingdom is nowhere near PAX, sadly.

Though, if you're in town for PAX, you should try to check it out.

If on a normal Saturday Card Kingdom is worth the drive for anyone living between Calgary and Sacramento its worth the 5 mile trip for the LRR meet up ;)

Maybe there needs to be modified version of CAH for long-term play in crowded places. Like... CAH combined with Telephone. I'm thinking something where you print out a bunch of existing CAH cards and the idea is to write in the story between the actual print on the cards. So the first person chooses a card, and numbers it (1). They hand it, along with the stack of not-yet-chosen cards, to whoever they want. The second person chooses a second card, writes in the words required to connect it to the 1st card, and numbers their card (2). Then passes everything on to a third person, etc. Once a card is numbered and filled out, it's an immovable part of the story, and each successive person gets to choose from the un-numbered cards and add one to the story. And you can pass them on to someone 5 minutes later, an hour later - it doesn't have to be a sit-down game, you just continue it all around the convention.

So for example:

1) MICHAEL JACKSON
2) got VAJAZZLED
3) one sunny morning in May by TOM CRUISE
4) who then went out for ALL YOU CAN EAT SHRIMP FOR $4.99
5) but got distracted by a sale on EDIBLE UNDERPANTS
6) Meanwhile, SARAH PALIN
7) was reading HARRY POTTER EROTICA
8 ) while SEXTING
9) with NICKELBACK

You get the idea, hopefully.

This idea is sort of strange, and needs work, but I was struck by it and thought I'd share.

I have a copy of CAH that I'll be bringing to PAX - we can all play it at the meetup? :)

Can you read?

Can you appreciate The Humor of the online sketch comedy group Loading Ready Run?

If you answered yes to the previous questions, you are going to be fine.

I... wouldn't really equate LRR to the usual fair of a CAH game, but we do enjoy the game.
