The Kickstarter Thread

Postby LogicSword » 09 Sep 2012, 16:35

Seeing as there's usually something cool people want money to make, thought I might as well start a topic for any awesome projects people find on Kickstarter and the like.

At the minute I'm really excited for the new Broken Sword game that's being Kickstarted. Of all the classic series that are jumping on the bandwagon after Double Fine, this is the one I'm really happy is coming back. It's already fully funded but there's still twelve days left if you want to donate.

I've already pledged for that one, and I'm definitely super excited for it too, especially the translations. I played the first three games as they came out (sadly haven't gotten around to play the fourth one yet), but I played all of them in French, and hearing the English voices in the kickstarter video is very weird.
Especially Nico, I can't understand a thing she's saying with her fake French accent. So I'm looking forward to the original French voices hopefully returning.

Not to be a negative nelly, but...

"30-year-old burnout, doing just enough work to pay his rent and enjoying a care-free man child's lifestyle. In order to raise enough money to keep his band going, he accepts an offer to do freelance secret agent work."

A TV show starring a late 20-something white-dude burnout manchild who's actually an AWESOME SECRET AGENT?! Man, I have TOTALLY NEVER HEARD THAT PREMISE BEFORE. :| :| :| Wish fulfillment much?

Christopher Hastings is basically the main thing this has going for it.

There's 30 hours left in the fangamer Retrowear Kickstarter. They're reprinting Shirtness! And there's a LUCAS SHIRT. Holy shit, there's a Lucas shirt. Gaaaah I love these guys.

The difference is Morris is a tremendously funny, intelligent man.

Meanwhile, I can see how graphic nerd t-shirts need to be backed. Niche audience.

Touché.

Though honestly they're using it not so much a Kickstarter as a preorder system. You pay money and get a shirt. Also I wouldn't call the Ness/Lucas shirts (which are my primary interest) graphic T's, since they lack a graphic. They're more of a cosplay item.

I'm confused, what does Les Enfants Terribles have to do with gaming? Did they make a game out of it?

It's a Metal Gear reference. [Spoilers for a four year old game?]

Les Enfants Terribles (The Terrible Children), was a United States Government project developed in the early 1970s, which aimed to produce clones of the legendary soldier Big Boss.

All of Fangamer's designs are subtle. In general, if you haven't played the thing they're referencing, it'll just look like a cool design. It seems to be one of their mantras as a company.

Oooh, okay, I thought of the novel. Which I assume was referenced in that game.

And yeah, I haven't played the Metal Gear games, so I definitely wouldn't have picked up on the reference if I saw someone with that shirt. I do think their shirts are cool regardless of whether you get them, which is nice.

Hand To Mouth is a pretty interesting and funny show I feel. It's not directly done by the SMBC Theater guys, but they do help on it. The kickstarter has already hit it's goal, but the stretch goals would be pretty cool to hit as well. I'd recommend checking it out.

With any luck, I will soon be returning to this here thread to fundraise for my charitable road race from London to Ulan Bator, Mongolia. For now though, I would like to thank LogicSword for it's existence.

Project Awakened seems pretty cool. I, unfortunately, don't have money to pledge.

I was thinking of doing a Kickstarter for my web series at YouTube.com/RerezTV
I figured it would help with publicity and allow me to fund further episodes.

Dem games ain't cheap!

[The Longest Journey: Dreamfall Chapters]

...!

...!

...!

(Note there's heavy spoilers for the ending to Dreamfall, I suggest you play through the first two games before watching the pitch video. Seriously you should at least play The Longest Journey once in your life. It's one of the greats of Adventure Games. Right up their with the Lucas Arts stuff.)
~I'm probably not serious~
Oh and you can just call me Dave.
No need for the whole screen name.

Stripped: The Final Push
Those of you who follow me on G+ will already have seen this, but I think it's definitely a worthwhile project.

Also, I'm glad I searched, instead of creating a new "kickstarter projects" thread.
