Re: Red Dwarf X
I like Rimmer a bit more now.
Re: Red Dwarf X
I really loved the Series 8 ending "explanation". Also, the scene where he slams his fist down on the table is maybe my favourite scene in RDX. That or the "fear" speech.
Re: Red Dwarf X
"And you're a baboon, four eyes!" Had me cracking up.

I kept hearing sometimes "You kissed my Brother". I was waiting for that joke to appear.
There's been a disappointing lack of implied homosexuality jokes these series.

Re: Red Dwarf X
I misread the synopsis and disappointed myself for a while but had a massive grin with "the slimes coming home".
"Hiding in an Asteroid, surrounded by a Simulant Death Ship and a fleet of Annihilators, the Dwarfers begin to wonder whether this is the beginning of the end. Only one man can save them. Unfortunately that man is Arnold J Rimmer. "
Was expecting Ace to show up.
Trolling about series 8 was excellent. Bring on series XI

Re: Red Dwarf X
I'm still wondering how Rimmer is a hologram and how he knows how he died in Series I. Did the original Rimmer hologram come back and the resurrected Rimmer take his place?
The most unique, nicest, and confusing individual you will get to know. Don't be stupid around me, that's my job.

Re: Red Dwarf X
Well isn't the hologram made from all the ship's data and memories of the crew?

Re: Red Dwarf X
There's Original Holo Rimmer who took on Ace's legacy.
There's flesh Rimmer from the Resurrected Red Dwarf series
There's Holo Rimmer which is now.
We don't know if the latter 2 are the same or not.
If current Rimmer is the first one, then it's a huge character degeneration or a massive re-write.
All we know is that the current Rimmer died during the original Radiation leak.

Re: Red Dwarf X
The hologram isn't brain in a new body it's a computer simulation of that person so a new hologram would have all the memories up until that point.

Re: Red Dwarf X
If so, he must have died saving the ship with his 'long arms'.

Re: Red Dwarf X
And I just had this same train of thought tonight. One the one hand this Rimmer states that he died in the radiation leak from series 1. On the other hand he is not only aware of the metal eating virus from series 8, he takes full credit for saving the ship.
Uh?
And should I be worried that my train of thought exactly mirrored the last few posts without any prior knowledge until now?

Re: Red Dwarf X
Well, all data from the original was available to the computers at the beginning of series 8, so there we get the basis for radiation leak-death.
Then, there's the events of series 8 to add in, data of which would also be available, depending slightly on how series 8 was actually resolved following the virus. This gets us our basis for the virus knowledge.
I think there's room to suggest there might be the odd missing piece or bug in his memory, owing to Holly and other Red Dwarf systems not being able to properly observe and inform, but all in all I think it's reasonable for this Rimmer to either know about them "first hand" or at least have been informed over the intervening years.

Re: Red Dwarf X
makes best sense, they're certainly not gonna give a straight explanation - hand-wavium is a Red Dwarf favourite remember.
