4th anniversary of the apex of Paul's Beard

Postby ecocd » 13 Oct 2012, 09:30

On this day in 2008, Paul's Beard hit its apex during the Season 5 finale, Rapstar 64k, with its co-starring appearance in the music video for "This is Why I'm Paul." We still miss you, Paul's Beard. We will never forget.

For those who have forgotten or are new here. Members of the forums recounted their most memorable moments of Paul's Beard ins a series of videos:

Ode to Paul's Beard 1
Ode to Paul's Beard 2
Ode to Paul's Beard 3

On reflection, the music drowns out the words. Lost the original files so I can't redo.

Sometimes, for a brief moment, I start to think this forum is normal.

That is usually swiftly corrected.

Yeah, Paul used to sport a truly awesome Van Dyke beard, and in 2008's Desert Bus, he agreed to shave it off for a equally awesome donation.

Here's some pics of the progress of The Shavening: Straight from the Desert Bus horse's mouth of course. :)

And also some video of the same.

Fun fact - Googling "paul's beard" get that ustream clip as the 3rd hit, and the first part of that Ode Elomin mentioned in the 4th hit, THIS THREAD as the 10th hit, and the DBFH photo gallery as the 11th hit. AND image searching the same terms used to show the above pic that I turned into an image macro, and Paul with just a 'stache on the first page, and some bassist who married a Kodak heiress on page two. ;{)}

I remember when I saw some of the old videos and he had a sweet freaking beard.
He made the coolest warrior of darkness.
I guess Paul is a pretty good warrior as well though.

All it took was for me to come out of semi-retirement thanks to Red Dwarf Series X and the 4 year anniversary of "This is Why I'm Paul." There is nowhere else on the internet where these two things can be discussed.

I guess all the people that have joined in the last 2-3 years are much more normal than me. That's a shame. Did I mention I've had a handlebar moustache for the past year?

@Elomin Sha I did completely forget about the odes! Both the best of times and the worst of times. Paul's transitions from Paul's Beard to Hulk Hogan Beard to Village People Moustache to Charlie Chaplin Moustache to 14-year old clean shaven Paul will remain one of the Top 10 All-time LoadingReadyRun moments for a long time to come.

Consider that I have been a member of these forums about four months longer than you. What does that say about me?!? And where did all these moustaches on my face come from?!

(As a beard enthusiast, I too miss Paul's beard. But seeing as Paul is gorgeous even without it, I think that's fine. [It makes his face look more chiseled.] Besides, Graham is sporting exquisite facial hair these days, and James has occasional scruff, so I'm still happy. If the entire crew were to shave all at once, though, that might be too much for my poor heart to handle.)

Haha I remember doing that! Good times... sad times for Paul's beard though.

Please don't do the whole crew! Grahams beard was an inspiration for my own. And that beard is now enjoyed by a lady friend!

I take offense to that!
And yes... I remember when I started getting into LRR. Paul's beard was like a beautiful vision of days past, like a vision of something I once knew but no longer could visit... I only wish I could have been there to console the beard on the day when it fell. v_v
