Desert Bus Testing
We here at Desert Bus have spent many long months forging a new Chat Experience™ for DB6. But with any massive endeavor, it requires massive amounts of testing. I've been lucky to have 60 odd folks prod at everything already, but they know IRC. I need some more... average people.
Here's the short of it: I, along with a few other swell people, have built an IRC server and client from (nearly) scratch. We've load tested it, and it handles ~5,000 users in the channel at once before it sputters and dies. And we know the basics work. Now we just need to make sure it works as YOU expect it to.
Test server: irctest.desertbus.org 6667 #desertbus (6697 for SSL)
Test client: http://irc.fugiman.com/
If you are using the webclient (and I'd love it if you do), please note the "Login" and "Register" buttons. These are test versions of the donor interface - you log in with your donor account now. Everything else should be self-explanatory.
Now the hard part: Feedback. If anything works in a way you wouldn't expect, whether it be a missing feature or a bug, post in this thread with what you don't like, your browser (version too if you know it), and your OS. I'll work on getting it patched up ASAP, and I might post a gif or two if I'm feeling stressed out. Sound good?
Thanks to anyone who decides to drop by. I really hope this works out well...

Re: Desert Bus Testing
Just signed up for my account (I take it these are new donor accounts, or do the ones from last year still work?) and I noticed there's no way to get back to the sign in screen after signing up, and it doesn't take me automatically. All I get is the same registration screen and "Account registered" at the top.
(Google Chrome, ver. 22.0.1229.94, running on Windows 7 64-bit.)
Other than that, seems good so far. Nice work.

Colloquy 2.3 for Mac, iBook G4 OSX 10.4.11
Edit; is the client supposed to do something? (FF 3.6.28)

These are testing accounts that mimic donor accounts. We didn't want to hook it up to the live system until we knew it worked. So yes, the registration/login setup right now is barebones, because it'll be replaced for the actual event.

You do see this is an iBook G4, yes?
For reference, I just attempted to join the ol' ustream DB chat, and it appeared to work. so. Yeah.

I'm not familiar with apple products. The G4 means nothing to me.

I made a login and pword and everything worked. I assume it's not supposed to go into an actual chat?

Re: Desert Bus Testing
If you are not seeing people talk and a mibbit-like interface, then there is a problem. http://i.imgur.com/BkgcW.png is roughly what you should see.
Oh, and metcarfre led me to find a critical bug that I'm working on patching now. If your browser doesn't support websockets, you are likely going to have issues right now

I don't know what a web socket is, but it sounds sexual and I like.
But no, it won't log me into a chat. Just says Pick yo nick.

Yea, it's not letting me chat at all. I keep pressing the button at the 'choose your nick' screen, tried signing up, and it didn't work. I'm running IE version 9.0.8112.16421 update version 9.0.10 on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Re: Desert Bus Testing
I can not log in with my old registration, I registered for a new one and it said it was invalid, I chose a nickname and joined it gives me a blank screen and everything I type gets a new tab.

Don't panic, there's still some tweaks left to be made to the system.
While the chat client worked fine for me earlier today, now it's loading, but not connecting to the server. Windows 7, Firefox 16.0.1 (both my desktop and laptop).

Also, the login page doesn't appear to redirect to the chat, it just clears the fields and stays there. When I try to reload irc.fugiman.com, the "Login" and "Register" links are gone (presumably because I'm now signed in), but the same situation as above when I try to join.

I suspect that he shut it down to work on stuff and just forgot to post about it. Fugi has a habit of asking for help and then going off and doing his thing. I am sure he reads stuff he just isn't real good at the updates sometimes.

Re: Desert Bus Testing
The server itself is up, I'm connected to it through my regular client.

Re: Desert Bus Testing
Well, I tried to fix it, and everything broke. Then I spent a while trying to figure out why, and I still don't know.
So darn. I'll work on this more tomorrow after class. Sorry to everyone who tried to test and it just died on them. Good news: We found bugs!
And yeah Hosk, I should probably post status updates more often. Sorry!

Hurray! we broke it in a good way!

Its a very common trend for "you people" Anyone who is supremely good at something tends to overlook everything other than that thing. You are REALLY good at code and programs, which means interaction with human beings not so high on the list
I would much rather you and Ashton, and whomever else is involved make it so we can communicate with the busing moonbase while they dance like monkeys rather than you communicate with us now.

Yeah, I'm also getting the no redirect from the login page, and "disconnected from server" errors on my laptop.
