She can read to a limited degree, I wrote that note, but she knew what it said.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
Found a shot of the Desert Bus team on the charity dinner Flickr page.
I felt as though it should be shared. It'll have to do until I can find a shot of them with the giant novelty check.
There WAS a giant novelty check this year, right?

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
Where do you get giant novelty cheques printed? What do you print them on?
What do you do with them once the event/presentation is over? Is there like a stack of these things at the Penny Arcade office?
Do banks have a "giant novelty cheque" cashing/paying in system? Like, some kind of huge plastic bag and slot in the wall? Do you have to go to a special, adapted branch of a bank because not all of them have the right equipment, and the huge stamps needed?
So many questions!

This was answered during Desertbus, because some one possible the chat asked the same question but can't for the life of me remember the answer only that one of the volunteers had actually worked a placed where they made them.
But if you have to time watch the hours of desertbus when Childs Play was there you will find your answer

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
You can get them done at kinko's, They are all stacked up on Kristin and Jamies office, Khoo has tried to get rid of some them on several occasions but they wont allow it, and they have been used for "large flat surfaces" on a number of occasions.
It was Kristin Lindsay who answered it... I think on Monday or Tuesday.

I am now really tempted to give someone a giant cheque next time I owe money.
Just call me Dylan. It's easier to pronounce.

Kinko's, Staples, any print/copy shop should do it. They can't actually be used as cheques though.

The trick is whether or not the recipient knows they can't cash it. By the time they figure that out, I'll be long gone.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
DB6 was such a wonderful thing to wake up to every morning. I went in to DB6 think I was going to donate about $10 and get on with my week, but by the final hour the ENTIRE of my "new monitor" savings had gone into donation drives and merch. Completely cleared it. Thanks guys.
I'd like to paraphrase Ken Stacey in the TV interview, and say that the Desert Bus is quite simply one of the nicest places on the internet, and a fantastic counter to the claim that the internet is a full of trolls, hackers and the lesser species of SubReddit groups. The chat couldn't have been more supportive to the new users such as myself, even when we asked questions that had been answered a thousand times already, and the interaction between the crew and the chat was quite wonderful.
I close by saying "D***it Kroze, I had to do FIVE beer runs because of you!"

I wonder how much was in your "new monitor" savings, since I ended up spending 3 weeks' worth of paychecks on Desert Bus, without realizing it until later.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
I have to admit I only dropped three quarters of a pay cheque on Desert Bus. Admittedly not everyone's pay cheques are the same.

It was about £200, which I'd put in my paypal account. It just seemed easier to use that as my absolute donations limit.

Now now y'all, it's not a contest. And not only are people's paycheques different, so are their living expenses and budgets. You are all fantastic and it absolutely blows us away how generous you and all the viewers are with the various amounts of disposable income you may or may not have, with your time and energy in watching Desert Bus and helping with things like the lexicon, the YouTube videos, the record keeping, and your enthusiasm for spreading the word about it. None of this would be possible without you all. <3

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
A problem I found with DB when I tried spreading the word about it with my friends is that they didn't get it. I did try very hard to promote it. But the human condition was hard to battle.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
I try, but for a lot of people it doesn't make sense. On the surface level it doesn't sound like a fun thing to spend a whole week watching. Even going into it myself each year I think to myself, "why did I like this again? Maybe I'll just watch it here and there" and then it inexplicably and without fail hooks me to the point where I can't do anything else.

I was only able to donate $10 myself and also tried very hard to spread the word, but no one would listen. I gave up after a while when people started removing me on Facebook when I would post a link to a Desert Bus video.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
I really struggled to explain to my housemates the attraction of Desert Bus (people who didn't know who LRR are, or didn't believe a week long charity telethon could be compusive viewing). The one thing that united us was imagining how mind-numbing the game would be to play. I think, in future, I'll just send them a link to the very awesome polygon article: http://www.polygon.com/2012/12/4/372209 ... hilds-play
On the other hand, maybe the forum should work on this: Describe Desert Bus For Hope for a newcomer in 25 words or less?
P.S.Sorry Tally, my bad.
