Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
Thank you for another entertaining year LRR, helpers and chat. It's helped me with being bed ridden for the past 13 days and probably will do for another week (great). I would try and actually say this but I've been without my voice for 7 days now. CAn't wait for next year.
The most unique, nicest, and confusing individual you will get to know. Don't be stupid around me, that's my job.

I'm already suffering from some serious post-Desert Bus emptiness. Hence me being here. I think I might have to start being active now to tide me over for the next year.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
A hell of a week for both the viewers and the crew.
$436,000 dollars raised. That's an amazing number.
Honestly, it made this past week of being unemployed pretty damn awesome. At time of posting, I haven't slept in about 30 hours, and it was worth every sleep-deprived minute.
Also: I have to apologize to Pika. I was a snark and gave you the challenge of 'Get Taller' because I was being an ass in the chat.
Then you went and did it. Then I felt like a major ass. So, sorry about that.

First, Thank you guys for such an amazing all around event, and for the week of outstanding entertainment.
On a more personal note, I need to express my eternal gratitude for one specific thing. During the last writing challenge Graham read my entry aloud, and everyone in the room laughed and was very kind and complementary. That probably doesn't sound like much to you but I don't even have the words to express how much it meant to me. Hearing Graham bring to life something I wrote (and watching Ian's face as he read it) and knowing that people whom I hold in the highest esteem and respect liked something that I made... it means more than the world to me. So I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Chill. Its like 2 days' worth of videos on the DB youtube channel. Take it in moderation and slowly work your way back to the regular non-DB world.
AlsoI'de like to thank SecretTech for A) Writing that thing, and B) For being new on the forum and not being a spambot. You fill me with hope for the future good sir/madam!

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
I think the highlight for me was the video of Frumpy Matt as the Chippendales.
Let me explain:
About a year or two ago someone at work found an e-card website that allowed you to put faces into videos and did one of himself and his coworkers as the chippendales. So when I finally got inspiration for what to do with Frumpy Matt I trawled through both my email archive and trying to find it on google, eventually happening across the site, seeing it was still active and still had the video, and the rest was history.
To see people on the chat re-linking it and then seeing the crew watch it on the feed (along with Kris Straub!) was a great feeling. Okay they didn't mention me by name but I'm okay with that. It's enough just to know that something I did was appreciated by all those people

Many congrats from me to the whole of the DB6 team.
Was hoping to catch the end of the run today, but alas, 2 hours too late!
Get some well deserved sleep, it was immense!
As an aside, respect to Matt for the amount of abuse he took from chat!

So much congrats to the crew, and huge props to everyone who bid on auctions or even just donated. Brilliant year as usual - kinda sad that I missed no. 5, but life's life. Hopefully I should be able to stick around here on the forums again without RL dragging me away kicking and screaming.
So start get saving for DB7 people. Let's knock it out of the park!

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
I can't even begin to express all my feelings about Desert Bus and the amazing work you all did this year. Previous years have been good, but this year... man, this year, you guys just knocked it out of the park. It was astounding; a fun, entertaining, intricately produced show that went on for a week and raised nearly half a million dollars. It's probably a bit weird, because I'm not your parents, just some guy you kinda know... but I'm proud of you goobers. So proud.
I'd also like to say thank you for the wonderful support you gave my Six Dollar Secrets challenge. I know sometimes I was pestering you guys about it, and I'm sorry. But I really appreciate it. The joy I got early yesterday morning when Kathleen was reading out the secrets... it was amazing. I hope at the very least that book serves as another small memento of DB6.
And, if you're interested, I've already got an idea for my challenge next year that I think you'll enjoy very much. I need to start saving for it, though... I was totally not expecting you all to collect so many secrets. Kathleen blew me out of the water with it.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
A great year for the three C's (crew, chat and childeren). loved being put on the spot twice for short writing challenges. Also, what Ken Steacy said about DB showing what kids on the internet can do and how that is a bright future, really hit me in the feels.
But now I feel the withdrawal.
Also, welcome all new people

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
So now that I've sobered right up, and can say this without sounding like a raving lunatic.
Last year during db5, I hit some really hard times, but desert bus being there is strangely what got me through it. Seeing everyone, doing things just to raise money to help others. Taking time off work, volunteering their services, it was amazing that in one of my darkest times they were just hanging around, being an example of exactly just how great people can be.
And this year was no different. My life has gotten alot better over the last two months, but it's been kind of scary. And then DesertBus happened. And it reminded me again of just how great people can be. And I'd just like to thank everyone involved, including the community. Without realising it, every year you guys show up, and you are a beacon in the dark, proving that amongst all the bad in the world, random people, not super scientists, not millionairs, but just normal people can come together and do amazing things.
So thanks. From me personally, you guys are all, by far the best people I've ever "met" and I want you all to know that.
Oh right, and sorry to all the LRR crew that I've been spamming tweets at the last two days. I was too far away from my IRC to type, and too drunk to not be saying things at people. Though reading back, I feel like I probably came off as a completely creepy dude who never sleeps and couldn't spell.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread
DB was rather excellent. I always feel kind of lonely when it finishes, as I stream it the entire time I am home, you get kind of used to crazy antics going on for almost a week. Lucky I can now go through the parts that I missed on youtube.
I'm happy I was able to donate a little money, and got a couple of giveaways for my trouble. Feels good.
I am so very proud of all the people involved in desert bus. It really is a great thing.
