Congratulations to the LRR couples on their engagements!
Re: Congratulations Graham & Kathleen!
There is so much win in this thread, I don't think I can name all the things that made me laugh. I do believe this is an appropriate time to necro this image.

This was a very wise move. This thread has enough saccharine in it... can you imagine this spread out live over seven days?!
Oh... oh god.
Also, what I mean was that not everyone changes their name when they get married. My mom didn't, since her patients already knew her as Dr. Hyde. So that's an option too. I GUESS WE'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE~

Personally, I think "De Stark" would be an awesome last name. I fully expect that if they ever have a kid, and it's a boy, he'll be named "Anthony Eddard Stark", though.

Didn't Kathleen's dad make up "De Vere" whole cloth anyways? Or am I confusing that with someone else.

Her $6 secret was that her dad changed her name from Scales (spelling?) to De Vere. Where he got De Vere from is anyone's guess.

Crap. I had money down that it would be Tally and Jer first...
Oh well.
Congratulations Graham and Kathleen. Let us know when we all have to rent tuxedos and come camp at the Moonbase.
After-thought: Taken to the church by a full-size replica of the desert bus?

Think of how many invitations they would have to send out. Might as well rent a stadium for the ceremony and reception.

Something tells me they're going to keep the date secret, and only tell us after it's all over. I do not blame them for that.

Considering how public their lives are it could be nice for them to have a small, private ceremony and reception.

That would be my guess as well, probably post some wedding photos afterward. They really don't need to tell us everything.

I think she said her dad got it from TV, but de Vere was the family name of the Earls of Oxford. Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl, is one of the most popular alternative candidates among people who believe Shakespeare didn't write his plays. There's also a theory out there that says Edward was both the illegitimate child of Queen Elizabeth I and her incestuous lover.
When I first got into LRR, I did wonder if Kathleen was related to them in any way.

Big weddings are expensive and dumb.
Small gatherings are where it's at.

I wouldn't go that far. Both have their appeal, and "big" and "little" are not universal constants.

I'm totally expecting this, and fully in support of it. I'm not going to argue if they DECIDE to stream something, but I certainly don't think it's necessary...

And just as much fun! Since it's just family and friends, you get to spend more time with the people really close to you, instead of 'making the rounds' to show hospitality to all the Friends of Friends and Friends of Family and Family of Friends, etc. etc. that end up coming along. I've been to a handful of weddings of varying size; the wedding couple at one of the 'big' ones seemed tired when they stopped by my family's table to chat. My wedding was simple and quick and fun - did the ceremony in the living room, took pics, then basically had a house-party with a really nice cake.

If they do decide to stream it, odds are we'll find out the day before, at the earliest.

Re: Congratulations Graham & Kathleen!
Might be cool for Kathleen to use BOTH names. She´d be Kathleen De Vere-Stark (or Kathleen Stark De Vere) Certainly gives it a bit of a posh ring to it though
Whatever they choose to do with the wedding, I can totally see them keeping it a private affair. We get to see a lot of them anyway, I don't need to see every single thing they do (Though some pics afterwards would be awesome in any case of course.)

Somehow I think out of all the pics they MIGHT show us it'll be 2 or 3 happy couple pics and a metric fuck tonne of everyone else dicking around pics. For some reason I have this image in my head of just James' face smiling into the camera half the time.

Just wanted to throw my own congratulations into the mix. Weddings are always fun. Speaking of pictures, I have this image in my head of Graham photo-bombing the picture of Kathleen and her bridesmaids.

Re: Congratulations Graham & Kathleen!
I would like to throw in Graham De Vere.
Since we are discussing surnames, I would like to ask why is it the bride that's expected to decide if her surname will be altered?
