Re: Who should play the Twelfth Doctor?
When they were talking about the Hollywood movie, I told my dad how Jonny Depp expressed interest in playing the Doctor. My dad asked "well who would you rather it be, Morgan Freeman?"

Right in the patriotism...

Holy crap yes.
Also, for some reason I think Stephen Merchant would make a very entertaining Doctor, kind of bumbling and constantly confused by the world around him.

Even the TARDIS would struggle to fit all of Stephen Merchant in, even if that is the most fantastically awesome idea I've heard all week.

Ayaode is just not outgoing enough to be the Doctor. His primary export is awkwardness. Everything I have ever seen him in is like this. Even as himself on shows like Big Fat Quiz of the Year, he's just so awkward. I find him hilarious, don't get me wrong. He would have made a great Doctor back in the day, like Second or so, but he's just become far too extroverted to be played by Ayaode.
If he hadn't of showed up during the Power of Three, I'd vote for Brian Cox, and if he was British, Neil Degrasse Tyson.

I read Stephen Merchant and now I want Stephen Merchant to be Doctor Who immediately. Like, right now. Because Wheatley.

What? Damn! I mistakenly thought we were playing the 4th Earl of Finnington rules where you have to subdivide the 52nd lattitude before you could call, with no shunting, cornering, double flips or tressles.
GG nonetheless.

Re: Who should play the Twelfth Doctor?
Is it wrong that, while it would be different, and despite it being easily explained away by "because science-fiction"... I don't think they should be expected to change the sex or race of the Doctor?
I've seen much talk online of, "Okay, now they have to change it" and I don't think so. I'd be fine if they did, but I don't think they have to.
One thing I think a lot of advocates for a female doctor are forgetting, is that it's pretty clear by this point that (assuming Time Lords even can change gender) The Doctor identifies as male, and chooses to be male.
A race change would be far less confusing and, since the 2005 reboot, Doctor Who has been amazingly proactive about a multicultural supporting cast, so I could see them going that route. I've been seriously impressed with how many people of colour appear in the show, and practically never in stereotypical roles.
So, it would never happen, but I support the Ricard Ayoade idea

MattAn, I think I can safely say I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue either I'm afraid
Also, while Richard Ayoade would make a superb Doctor, I'd still prefer to see what Hugh Laurie could bring to the role
