Your poll is unusable; it doesn't have "Michael Jayston" on it.

For one extremely weird moment, I somehow mistook Brendan Fraser for Bronson Pinchot there on the list.

...

Can we put another option on that poll...?

I vote Whoopi Goldberg. Female, black, and HILLARIOUS!

Honestly it should either be Stephen Fry (though I doubt he could do the requisite running) or a competent but otherwise not-well-known British actress.

Ditto now has me imagining Hugh Laurie as the Doctor... what a nice thought to dream on tonight. Good night, all!

My vote is pretty much for anyone that'll stick around for more than 4 years.

Wasn't that basically Guinian?

How about a Doctor Q?

EDIT: That was in response to Whoopi. Dammit, forgetting about this for an hour.

But no more than 7; Tom Baker's record shouldn't be broken. :P

Aaaaahaha that'd be amazing. And hilarious. I've never seen her do gravitas though, since she's a comedian. Could she pull it off?

With David Mitchell as companion.

Wait... Mitchell DID provide a voice for a robot in one of the previous episodes... and companions almost always have a previous appearance as a different character before coming on as a full-time companion (Martha and Amy did...)

8O

It has been way too long since we've had a proper full-time male companion, though. Rory popped in and out too much, and so did Captain Jack.

Are you saying you dont want Captain Jack to pop in and out of your life?

Thomas Brodie-Sangster

Eamonn Walker

Rose Leslie

Nicholas Hoult

Rachel Hurd-Wood

Matthew Lewis

Emma Watson

Keira Knightley

Graham Stark

The Other Graham Stark

or anyone who has played James Bond.

I think everyone on that list could pull it off, obviously there would be dramatically different takes on the character depending on which way you go. I would love to see someone who is just incredibly dramatic and powerful like Eamonn take the roll in a more cerebral direction.

Captain Jack can pop in and out of anything he wants to. ;)

Wait wait hang on you're saying The Other Graham Stark has played James Bond?!? 8O

(Also I agree someone more dramatic and powerful would be a nice change of pace from the zany antics of the last two Doctors. Then again, I like it when the show strikes a balance between funny and dramatic... and I don't want it to take itself too seriously, so...)

First: I freely admit I'm not a Doctor Who fan. Nothing against it, just never gotten into it.

I'd be happy to back the Sue Perkins arguments. I know it won't happen (I think it's pretty clear they're not prepared to have a female Doctor) but I wish it would, just to watch the 'But canonically the Doctor can't be female!' crowd to give up on the show. (Although I imagine a lot of them have already as of The Corsair.)

Plus, I really still do not see why not. Dr. Who's never exactly been a show to get hung up on its own canon.

Absolutely not going to happen. Professional Doctor Who fanboy and best friend of Wil Wheaton, Chris Hardwick, has always firmly believed The Doctor should never been anyone that isn't British. People have suggested Hardwick himself as the next Doctor (he's friend with Stephen Moffat and Matt Smith too..) but he straight up won't accept it.

It s pretty popular lately that the next Doctor should be a woman, and there's absolutely no reason why The Doctor shouldn't be.
But any suggestion other than Olivia Williams from Joss Whedon's Dollhouse is just plain incorrect. ;) Jus' sayin'.

No. No. NO. It's Doctor. You do not abbreviate the Doctor in Doctor Who. You just don't ever do it. Ever.[/nerd]
