to be fair, river has been married to the doctor a lot longer than the doctor has been married to river... they were married before the doctor even met her, and then they got married, after that they werent married yet.

Re: Who should play the Twelfth Doctor?
I'm still hoping the guy from Being Human who plays Hal gets the role.
Yes, it'll be another young, dark-haired, white man. But... shut up. I think he's a good actor because in Being Human he played two characters. His evil Vampire side, and his 'good' restraining from drinking blood side. It means he's flexible.
It's difficult speculating because I had never heard of Matt Smith before. Tennant I knew from Casanova.
So it'll be an unknown or very littley known actor.

Has anyone suggested Paterson Joseph yet? He was in Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways and has done a lot of comedy shows and theatre work.

I should be the Doctor. I'd be great.

You'll just set everything on fire and blow everything up! At least there'll be no UST with the companions I guess.

Re: Who should play the Twelfth Doctor?
Chiwetel Ejiolfor, Idris Elba, Adrian Lester and Paterson Joseph are the only British black actors I can think of off-hand with the talent to make the Doctor their own.
I must say I'm in the "not female" camp, for much the same reason as Graham in that "just because it should be" is not a valid reason - and I'm well aware of The Corsair.
That isn't to say I am fundamentally against the concept, I just don't see the need.
On the comedian angle, Stephen Merchant could be good, Fry & Laurie I can't see being interested in it. Marcus Brigstocke might be interesting and Rowan Atkinson, if he was really invested in it, would be wonderful I'm sure. Alan Davies gets onto the bookies shortlist every time, but I don't think he'd be interested.

I think Alan Davies would be interested in acting in general.
But he might see The Doctor having too much of a parallel with Jonathan Creek.

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen Chiwetel Ejiolfor in anything other than the films Serenity, 2012 or Salt, for god's sake go and watch The Shadow Line, a 7-part British crime drama created, written and directed by Hugo Blick (also a strong argument for why stuff with a single creative voice behind often has a stronger theme than room-written americana).
