If she wasn't so well known, yesyes yes yes yes.
She's quite Doctor-like in Nanny McPhee. More like if Clara and The Doctor combined into one character.

Actually, yeah, seeing as House, M.D is done, and I wants me some more Hugh Laurie with humorous attributes.. Hugh Laurie as The Doctor and Stephen Fry as his Companion. Fucking yes.

But seriously, Olivia Williams. Female Doctor. There's already been a major campaign supporting her!

In the near future, there is no force in the universe that will stop Pika from getting in Doctor Who. As either the Doctor or the Companion.

Unless Pika can magically make herself legit British/Welsh/Scottish/Irish, it's almost never going to happen. The crew are apparently rather particular about it. You won't ever see an American Doctor.. Well.. You already did. It's Gregory House, M.D.

HUGH LAURIE FOR DOCTOR WHO.

She will at least be a companion.

I'd watch it.

Companion: "What are we going to do about the Darleks/Cybermen/Weeping Angels?"

Doctor: "QUACK!"

Companion: "Of course!"

This thing writes itself. We can get rid of Moffat now.

Captain Jack can pop in and out of anything he wants to. ;)

Cap'n Jack DOES pop in and out of anything he wants to.

(I dunno if he remained all somber and serious and disappointing through "Miracle Day", I had to stop watching it for that very reason. :( )

Aaaaahaha that'd be amazing. And hilarious. I've never seen her do gravitas though, since she's a comedian. Could she pull it off?

1) "Comedy is the hard one." - Joss Whedon (on why he puts comedians in serious-roles)

2) She's a maestro, and a serious presenter (not just Mock the Week and the like),

3) She's already had a fan campaign for #DoctorSue for four months, well before anyone intimated that Matt was gonna leave.

On the other hand, Ms. Thompson has got the gravitas you're looking for...

How about a Doctor Q?

...I thought Q was Gene Roddenberry's answer to sneaking the Doctor into Star Trek?

John de Lancie might be interesting, but....nahhh.

Similarly with Mr. Wheaton; I'll listen to ANYTHING he records (audiobooks, podcasts, voice mail mess-er! Image ), but he lacks a little...something...

Hmmm...maybe if we could create a clone mixing Wil's acting acumen and Neil deGrasse Tyson's fiery passion for science?

Heh, I would be up for a A Bit MORE of Fry & Laurie :D I think they'd be able to work either way around, but L as the Doc and F as his companion might leave people expecting P.G. Wodehouse. ;)

Oh, and MattAn? If you're gonna pull out the 'stickler for Whovian canon' card, I'm gonna insist you start boosting for Michael Jayston. :P

I'd be curious about seeing what Nathan Fillion of Paul Gross would bring to the role, but maybe try one of them out (or both) as 'temporary regenerations' during a Christmas special or something...

And in closing, for an original suggestion of my own - if we're to take this unofficial trend of 'the Doctor's regenerations become younger as he goes on', we should see a teen actor take the 12th regeneration...

Rowan Atkinson. He's got experience in the role!

By that argument, add Richard E. Grant, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent and Joanna Lumley. :)

But if Rowan Atkinson he needs an assistant called Bob :D

I understand that people are opposed to the whole "the doctor is always a white dude" thing and I admit that I dont know all the 49 years of back story but dont time lords and time ladies have a gender?

Do they regularly change gender and "the doctor" is just a oddity that he always goes with male?

The only time lady we've ever seen to any extent is Romana, and when she was regenerating she came out with different appearances (trying them on for size as ladies do!) and they were all female. As far as I know it's always been the case that time lords stay male and time ladies stay female. And as for the white dude business I think that's more to the actors available at the time - this was 60s-70s-80s don't forget.

One of the Time Lords has been stated being a woman once. I think Timelords tend to stay the same gender out of preference. I think it'd quite traumatic to find yourself with radically different anatomy in addition having your surface physical appearance changing and personality. In addition experiencing the effect that made you regenerate. But you may never know that a Timelord may wish to 'see what it's like' if they had control. I mean, if the Doctor could what he looked like, he'd been ginger by now. With that I think The Doctor is highly likely to regenerate into a woman due to the chaotic nature of his regeneration.

But I think the Timelords are probably more fluid with appearance. If they can change their whole appearance whist staying the same gender and skin tone, I'd be silly to think that they won't be able to change skin tone or gender (or go in between genders).
It's interesting that The Doctor seems to have little control over regeneration but Melanie Pond (has some, dress size and aging) and I think another Timelord could change her appearance very rapidly during a regeneration intentionally.

I think it's people who are stuck in a ditch who assume the Doctor must always be white male.

Would make the 'mythology' behind regeneration a lot more exciting if the Doctor did have a female incarnation.

Are you referring to The Doctor's Wife? Because I'd be more inclined to go with Rule 1 on that occasion. I certainly don't recall anything in the classic era to that effect.

The Doctor lies?

You mean the Doctor snogged a male Timelord and lied that that timelord was female at the time so he didn't come across as maybe gay?

No. The Doctor is not a homophobic 13 year old boy.

I would be depressed if the next Doctor was a chav.
