No. The Doctor is not a homophobic 13 year old boy.

I would be depressed if the next Doctor was a chav.

Clearly The Doctor is Dax from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. A symbiote, could be male or female host. #lolololololololol

Still firmly in the Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Olivia Williams or Sue Perkins camp. I've seen Sue on Stephen Fry's QI and she is fantastic. And totally suits the "Doctor" look.

Also, just looking at those SkyBet odds.. NEIL PATRICK HARRIS IS NOT BRITISH... But he could be! #acting!

Chiwetel Ejiofor would also be all kinds of amazing. His Britishness was clear as The Operative in Serenity..
They have David Tennant.. Back on the list.. Somehow.. But.. Unless... Time's gone backwards? Can you be the same twice?
Robert Pattinson, Zac Effron and Russell Brand? SkyBet is trolling, right? Clearly they are trolling.

Are you referring to The Doctor's Wife? Because I'd be more inclined to go with Rule 1 on that occasion. I certainly don't recall anything in the classic era to that effect.

You're talking about The Corsair (a Time Lord, "one of the good ones,") had been both male and female in various incarnations. And, SURPRISE! The Corsair reincarnating into both males and females was first mentioned in Shada, which was a Fourth Doctor story written by Douglas Adams. Classic era.

Sorry! Some people were gender-progressive, even in the past.

Fair enough (even though Shada may not be strictly canon!) :D

But I think that the Doctor is a aberration in relation to most Gallifreyans - most of his regenerations have been rather out-of-control and violent...whereas Romana seemed perfectly at ease with selecting this form or that.

Oh and by the way, I'm totally on Team #DoctorSue, but that doesn't mean I'm not open to other equally-interesting ideas...heck, from what I've seen Russell Brand wouldn't be THAT bad.

Still not seeing anything votable on that poll, tho *meaningful look*

It could be more like the Doctor tries to delay his regeneration as long as he can and hang on to his current form until he can't hold it back any longer (like 10 in the End of Time) rather than accept it gracefully as the others do.

I like how the papers are saying Billie Piper could be the next Doctor. No. Another suggestion is Idris Elba, that would be interesting.

Wow, I did not realize that a campaign to make Sue Perkins The Doctor was already a thing. Cool. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I've only ever seen her on QI, but I love her on every episode. And she just has something Who-y about her.

She has a sitcom about being a vet that's quite funny, she used to have a double act with Mel Gedroic (if that's how that's spelt) on channel 4 back in the day, and she used to host the 99p challenge which was fantastic and had Simon Pegg and Armando Ianucci on it, bloody brilliant radio series.

I don't think I could trust a Cumberbatch Doctor. It would be like having your drink served by a bloke who looks just enough like the murderer on the front cover of the newspaper to be creepy, but not enough for you to call him out on it.

Nah, because then it would be Sherlock playing the Doctor. 1 iconic character at a time please.

Smaug and The Necromancer don't count, Film gets an exception

Edit: also, the sitcom aired this year, it's called 'Heading Out'. Takes a bit to get going, but it's good fun once it does.

I'd quite like to see Ben Whishaw do it, but he's very young I think the time is right for a slightly older actor again, but not sure who'd I'd favour. Other than the obvious choice of Hugh Laurie.

As stated elsewhere by others it will most likely be nobody on the books of the betting shops and will likely be a relative unknown.

Someone should tell the BBC to stop they have been doing it for almost 50 years now.
