Professor Pigglesworth: The Board Game (Print-Your-Own now!)
Professor Pigglesworth: The Board Game (Print-Your-Own now!)
As Very Briefly Mentioned During the PAX Prime Panel 2013!
Almost two years ago in the season one Checkpoint video Socially Inept, Kathleen and Graham introduced the world to The Fantastic Adventures of Professor Pigglesworth a social game in which players vied to raise the happiest magical winged piglets. With Pigglesworth's recurring appearances, I began to wonder whether the original game could actually work. I'm not a programmer, but I have done my fair share of casual board game design. After only an hour of brainstorming, I realized that much of what Graham came up with in that 50 seconds of video would work as a basis for a board game.
Now, on October 19, 2013 and with the explicit permission LoadingReadyRun, I am proud to announce the official worldwide release of
The Fantastic Adventures of Professor Pigglesworth: The Board Game!
As Graham states in the original video, you are Professor Piggleworth's assistants and it is your job to raise the happiest pigs you can. The player that raises 20 Happiness first wins the game! You gain Happiness by breeding magical pigs and buying toys to put in their pigpens to entertain them.
Your pigs will scour the magical forest for chocolate, raspberry and golden truffles to exchange for larger pigpens and toys. Along the way, they may encounter quests like, “Apprentice Truffle Hunter” which encourage you to form a large search party of pigs or random events like “Overcaffeinated” which lets you send a pig to search a forest twice in a single day.
The game is designed to play with 3-6 players, though in my experience it is best with 4-5 players and it takes about 45 minutes to complete a game.
Best of all, you can download your own Print-Your-Own copy right now for free!
Just download either the “TFAPP – all sheets.zip” file or the quickstart “TFAPP – Printshop Pack.zip.” All PDFs are meant to be printed on standard A4 8.5x 11” paper. The Printshop Pack zip file can be brought straight to a FedEx Kinko's where it will cost only about $10 to print a complete black-and-white set on heavy cardstock suitable for playing. Make sure you specify for black and white only! It costs 5 times as much to print in color, and the only pages that have color are the two for the instruction booklet. The All Sheets zip file will get you every sheet of cards suitable for printing each deck of cards in their own color, particularly useful if you want to print them at home. There are 25 sheets in all. You can find a direct link to my DIY guide with pictures here.
This game has been tuned and polished over a year of playtesting with friends and family to very positive reviews. Almost all of the Toy cards will be immediately recognizable by LRR fans as something directly related to LRR videos, albeit LRR videos at least 2 years old. Everything from the card templating to the hand-drawn art on the cards to the Instruction Booklet was made by yours truly (props to Kathleen on the Pigglesworth images, of course).
I give you my personal guarantee you that this is the best LRR-based board game in the world right now so what are you waiting for?
Edit: LRR has given permission for me to release this, but this is not an official LRR product. Just wanted to make that clear.

Dude, that is amazing. I'll see if I can get a copy printed out as soon as I can and try and convince some people to give it a try!

Local Game Store, I believe. That's how I've always read it, at least.

Wow. We'll, if anyone really does go through the effort to put this together, let me know! I really did just do this for my own amusement. It started out as just some rules scribbled on a piece of paper until I realized it was fun. It turns out making a fun game is really hard.
Hmm, in the DIY guide I have a picture of one of the clay piggy tokens I made. If anyone does actually print and cut the whole thing out, I'll send them a little clay piggy token (not sure about international, we'll have to see).
