Potentially off-topic: missing person

Postby whyarecarrots » 08 Dec 2013, 03:34

Hi all,

I realise I've not posted here for many a year (time-based reasons mostly: still a massive fan of the crew's stuff), and I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

A guy I know from university (here in the UK) has gone missing while hiking in Vancouver. I know only one person in Vancouver, hence why I've come back here to ask if anybody would be able to help by sharing the story and keeping an eye out in case anybody sees anything.

http://www.vancouverobserver.com/city/p ... sh-tourist.

Once again, I'm sorry if this isn't an appropriate thing to post on here, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

I think this is the right place for this (certainly there's no more appropriate section).

I'm a ways outside of Vancouver and don't know many people there either, but I can tell you that the media over here is doing a good job of keeping awareness up. He's been one of the top stories on the evening news I watch most (maybe all?) days this week, and a quick look shows that other major news sources have articles about him reasonably prominently.

This is fine, I did the same when Knuckles Dawson went missing .He helped RoosterTeeth with their Achievement Hunter stuff in the early days. Later discovered that he took his life having left weird messages and such.

I was just wondering, is this guy from Oxfordshire?

Since today in the local newspaper the front page story is all about a hiker who's missing in Vancouver.

Well it's said to say that it's good to have an appropriate thread for this, but here we are. A college friend of a dear friend of mine went missing about a week ago now in Annapolis. If you have any information...

Whoa... Doubt I'll end up finding him, but I'll let you know if I do.

My dad's friend Randy was talking with his mother Doris, earlier. Doris was complaining about a toothache, so Randy was going to take her to the dentist. However, Doris has dementia, and when Randy came up from the basement, Doris had already left, and he doesn't know where she went. Please pray that she be found quickly.

Update: She was found down the street by the plumber that was coming to fix their pipes today. :)

I hate to say it, unless the guy has moved on to other parts of Canada without telling people, he likely got lost and died on the north shore(Where the major mountains are in Vancouver). If I remember correctly, the main group searching for him has called off the search and they only do that if terrible weather that endangers the searchers, or they (with consultation with police) think he's dead.

My condolences, but it's a(nother) reminder that folks shouldn't go hiking in the mountains(anywhere really) alone. Even if they're an avid hiker with experience. And he didn't do the most important thing- Telling someone where he was going and when he expected to be back in contact. I know for a fact that all the local hostels are more than happy to hold on to this info and have reported in the past to local authorities.

After almost 2 months missing, Robert's body washed up at the Naval Academy this morning. At least the family can finally have a funeral.
