Fred Phelps, Sr. is dead


Now, AT BEST, the founder of a REALLY STRICT sub-sect of the Baptist church has passed on to the next life, and is enjoying his due reward in Heaven for preaching The Word as he was instructed.

At worst? We are rid of a professional troll, the likes of which Anonymous and lulzsec could not even conceive of. (making annoying people your MAIN SOURCE OF INCOME? Brilliant! /gentleman-w-monocle)

The truth is likely BOTH, plus something Billy Connolly said of other TRUE social misfits: "...the world's a wanker short."



So yeah, I'm glad he's dead (even my 'nice guy' side is pleased that his illness he'd been suffering is OVER :/ ), and I gotta ask:

Who wants to go protest outside his funeral?

The most fitting thing we could do is ignore his death completely.

Honestly, he and his family did some good: they put a tangible, ugly face to the hatred a segment of the world feels toward LGBT people. It was undeniable, it was gross, and I'm sure it made more than one person realize how horrible they were being.

So no. It's not worth protesting outside his funeral. He's not even worth the dirt he'll be buried under.

I'm convinced Westboro Baptist is a scam, and none of the members will ever try to argue against the accusation.

Hopefully it will collapse without Fred Phelps; hopefully any family member of his who misses him will overcome their indoctrination and one day spit on his grave with the rest of us.

His achievement is really quite singular: He's possibly the least mourned person in the history of death. I'm struggling to produce the merest quantum of dignity or compassion the death of a human being should inspire. Maybe I think we have dignity and compassion to spare now that his death has added so much of it to the world. But I'll say this much:

Rest in dirt, Fred Phelps. Do not darken the world with your shadow again.

I find it hard to be happy that someone's dead, but no, I won't miss him. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
