The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
Hey Everybody, Pandas and Pancakes here. So, on Monday the chat seems to have decided that a LRR fancon in the UK might be a good idea. I'm currently running a survey to try to get an idea of how many people are interested, and what they'd like to do at a LRR fancon.
The survey link is below:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1HA07Bl ... 4/viewform
At the moment, I have 2 thoughts -
The first is to do with the location - we may not have enough people to justify an entire con set-up, but it might be worth arranging a gathering, either at an independent venue, or at a larger con, like the MCM Expo. However, we can't really decide on this until we get a better idea of how many people are interested.
The second is to do with what the con can achieve. I like the idea of using it to raise funds somehow, maybe for LRR, maybe for Child's Play/Desert Bus for Hope. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this issue too.
Anyway, that's enough from me, over to you. Right now, I have no preference for date or location, but I'll keep everyone updated on the survey results as it goes. When and where do you think it should take place? What would you like to see?

Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
Although its a delightful expense, getting down to London, booking a hotel, etc., I'd still be happy to do so for a meet up. The MCM expo by itself (and by extension, by myself) doesn't actually spark my interest quite as much though, which is why I haven't bought tickets or booked anything or owt for this year's con.
I would happily join in on a UK meet up (I'm seriously looking into what it would take to save up for attending a theoretical 2015 LRRcon)

I'm confused: what are we not supposed to be saying?

Joking aside I'm very close to London so something around there would be ideal, but I'm not averse to some travelling.

If something gets arranged, I'd like to attend.

I might attend, although it depends on the date, the time, what I have going on, etc., so maybe. Hope I can, though -- this sounds awesome!

I'd be game for something, I'm about an hour away from London and don't mind travelling further afield

Well, there's a Channel in the way, but I need to see London for myself eventually. Count me in!

I think it would probably have to be a weekend, certainly if people are coming from Europe. I know it sucks but I think london is going to be the easiest option, it has the best transport links for the rest of the country

Keab has a good idea - MCM would be good for this, at least for hanging out if not for screenings/streamed panels/etc.

Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
I would just like to reiterate what we said on the stream on Monday: While it is unlikely that any LRR crew will be able to attend (what with all of Canada and the Atlantic Ocean in the way), if you guys can set something up we would be more than happy to skype in and do a Q&A or something.
Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
I'd totally be up for joining in as part of a meetup, but unlike last time, I'm no longer based in London with easy access to student bars and other facilities. In the absence of better suggestions, I could try putting some feelers out, see if I can find anything through the people I still know at university, but I can't guarantee anything at this point.

Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
The responses in the survey been fairly mixed about the location: Whilst there has been some support for London, several people have said that they would prefer something more in Midlands area, in order to make travel easier for those who live further North, as well as possibly lowering the prices everyone can expect to pay for accommodation. This also raises the possibility of using MCM Birmingham as a base, instead of MCM London.

depending on timing, location, work, the relative position of mars in relation to Neptune, etc, I might try to make it also.

Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
Unfortunately I'm in the most south-easterly part of south-east England so further North will be difficult but I'll still go if I can

Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
On balance, Birmingham would probably be easier for me too. Might be a little trickier for our European neighbours though.

Well it won't make much difference from a Scandinavian-type area, and it'll be a fair amount quicker from Ireland

Birmingham works just as well for me, I live in Northants so anywhere in the midlands works perfectly for me but I don't mind traveling a bit farther afield
