Desert Bus Craft-Along 2014!
Desert Bus Craft-Along 2014!
I just got my acceptance e-mail for my Craft-Along submission, and it makes me more excited than maybe it should.
So! I'm going to be making needle felted sculptures of strange real animals, and I'll use this to post in-process pictures.
I also want to know how everyone else's crafts are going. Lemme see!

Re: Desert Bus Craft-Along 2014!
I've decided to make my craft, and than email to request for acceptance for a future Craft-A-Long.
As I've had an idea accepted, but I was unable to fulfill it. So I thought it was better to have the crazy idea kept to myself, see if I can actually execute the idea and then e-mail to see if it'll be accepted or not.
The thing pending in my mind is a plush made from upcycled materials. I just need to get out of my "I'm bad at things" ditch before I can start it.

I already gave my craft to Tally at LRRcon.

Here are the in-progress shots for the Peacock Spider.
Here's the cephalothorax underfelting with the leg armature.
The body underfelting with some reference pictures.
The legs are done, with the underfelting of the body on top.
I'll probably finish the head today, and work on the fancy fancy abdomen later.

If you really think it's terrifying, you haven't seen them dance yet:

The abdomen has an exceptionally convincing shape.
I don't know if it's perfect, but viewing it cold (without carefully comparing it to the refence images) it looks like perfection to me.
Its that distinct nib at the end where the silk is excreted which you've done so well.

Thanks, and that abdomen will be completely covered with the peacockyness unless viewed from behind.
But I'm glad it looks good.

Final Peacock Spider pictures:
I was kind of hoping to see what other people have been doing for Desert Bus. I can't be the only one who has started...

So cute!
I've stopped college for the summer, so I may be able to start mine.

Well, with mine having been started, finished, and already with Tally, I can't really show you pictures of it...

Re: Desert Bus Craft-Along 2014!
Derp duck has... came along not as expected, hence its name.
It was going to be psychedelic Duck, but it's gone derping because I am hand stitching it and I am actually not a clean stitcher. My stitches will hold, but duck looks derp.
Also, FIRST BLOOD.
I stabbed my thumb with the needle when I was stitching on the button eyes.
Which is a better name: Derp Duck or Ducktor Derp?

I'll use that one. Thanks Dutch Dude.
It might look better when filled with stuffing. It's just the eyes are not in the place I wanted them to be, but it was such a pain in the arse to do, I don't want to go back. I should have stitched them on before making the head. Oh well...

I was trying to decide what that made me think of...
It looks like the mallard remote control holder that hangs over the couch armrest.
I always thought those were cool.

Re: Desert Bus Craft-Along 2014!
Its eyes being in the wrong place certainly makes it look different
I was placing them where atomically omnivorous none-predatory bird have their eyes. But the plan suggested to place them where predators would have their eyes, so I listened to the plan. But... they shifted during stitching (it's a miracle I managed to more or less mirror the eyes).
I should have listened to myself. Oh well.
I have a problem, the feet are meant to attach somewhere, where I had stitched up so... that's a problem I'll need to solve.

I was finishing the pattern on my Desert Rain Frog, when this happened.
Ineffective CEO Grumpy Frog?

Here's the final Desert Rain Frog. Appropriately grumpy.

I did as well, but here are links to what I gave her.
SMB Question Box
Creeper Face
SMB 1up Mushroom Keychain
SMB Super Mushroom Keychain
I don't remember what else exactly, these were all things I made for fun and then realized I could give to the crew for Desert Bus late last year. If you're also interested, browse through my gallery. It has the "BAWK" Twitch emote I gave to Alex, the Minecraft hat I gave to Graham (and was featured on an episode of Feed Dump), and the two Loading Ready Run logos I made early in 2013 but didn't get to mail them until late February of this year.
I know for a fact that the ones I linked I gave to Tally at LRRCon, I just don't remember what else.
Edit: I should point out that I am Frylock72 from the Twitch chat, just to be clear, and @Macheya on Twitter. Hence the two different names.
Edit2: Stupid urls. They worked before.

Re: Desert Bus Craft-Along 2014!
The url links are broken. Perhaps the url is too long.
Try setting up the HTML as:
some random text
(not using caps lock to be mean. Using capslock for clarity to distinguish from the html commands)
(corrected so I look less derpy)

Apparently it's url=, not html=, but thank you for letting me know. I haven't HTML'd in a long time.

Ah sorry, brain derp. As I was talking of html, it snuck into the url command.
Re: Desert Bus Craft-Along 2014!
I should have taken in-progress shots of this, but to be honest, I never felt sure enough that it would come out properly. So, here is my final item for the craft-along.
The pictures are a little blurrier than I'd like, but I think it came out well.
