I will say I feel like it would be stronger if they just cut out all the Bruce Wayne bits. Batman doesn't really need another origin story, but to the non-comic reading average person, getting to see some for the villains (even if they aren't accurate to the original source) is a refreshing change.
I also am just really liking the style. It actually looks Gothamy (again, to a very casual Batman fan), which I wasn't expecting them to really pull off. There's still a lot of room for improvement, but considering I was expecting it to be a dreadful cash-in on the fact that anything Batman related gets popular, I'm still impressed.
I appreciate that there seems to be a "point" past cashing in on the Batman universe, yes. And some of the villains are very well played. I like Penguin and original character (gasp) Fish Mooney. Falcone is OK. The actress playing Catwoman is a spot-on young Michelle Pfeiffer. Riddler is kinda meh, maybe it's the way his role is written. I like the OC guy playing Gordon, the rest of the cops are rather generic. I'm not sure about Alfred. He doesn't seem to have the class or quiet dignity of an Alfred. He calls Gordon "mate" in the first ep, what the hell?
I don't mind Bruce cropping now and then but it's true he seems to be "evolving into Batman" a little too fast and too soon.
