Would I Lie To You is fun indeed. Mostly because of David Mitchal.

The pilot definitely did have a bit of villain overload. It's still that to a certain level, but it's not having all the ones that showed up in the pilot play a role in every episode, and the episodes do feel at least a bit more focused on Gordon now.

Ah, ok, well, I'll probably give it another go sometime. That sounds more towards the direction Id like.

I will say I feel like it would be stronger if they just cut out all the Bruce Wayne bits. Batman doesn't really need another origin story, but to the non-comic reading average person, getting to see some for the villains (even if they aren't accurate to the original source) is a refreshing change.

I also am just really liking the style. It actually looks Gothamy (again, to a very casual Batman fan), which I wasn't expecting them to really pull off. There's still a lot of room for improvement, but considering I was expecting it to be a dreadful cash-in on the fact that anything Batman related gets popular, I'm still impressed.

I appreciate that there seems to be a "point" past cashing in on the Batman universe, yes. And some of the villains are very well played. I like Penguin and original character (gasp) Fish Mooney. Falcone is OK. The actress playing Catwoman is a spot-on young Michelle Pfeiffer. Riddler is kinda meh, maybe it's the way his role is written. I like the OC guy playing Gordon, the rest of the cops are rather generic. I'm not sure about Alfred. He doesn't seem to have the class or quiet dignity of an Alfred. He calls Gordon "mate" in the first ep, what the hell?

I don't mind Bruce cropping now and then but it's true he seems to be "evolving into Batman" a little too fast and too soon.

Oh yeah, I'm not a fan of their Alfred. I'm kind of wondering if they wanted to just keep the "dark and edgy" level up at all times and decided having one character who was more refined and calm would undermine that. The actor is doing a fine job of it, but he's written as a completely different character than I'd expect.

Perhaps they just want to have him evolve over the course of the show, just like Gordon and the villains will presumably.

It's like Alfred has the finesse of Ray Winstone.

As soon has Sean Pertwee brings out a sonic screwdriver then you know Gotham is trying too hard for attention.

Sorting out the papers with him at the end of the episode was nice. I like where the dynamic is headed. They still feel like they're the most unimportant thing in the show though. You hardly ever see them outside of Wayne Manor, or interacting with anybody other than each other. They're tango-ing around the central plot but aren't really getting involved with it so far.

Also last ep was probably Riddler's first decent appearance.

I don't tend to watch a lot of television, by which I mean I have an enormous DVD collection and a very healthy movie rental membership. That being said, a friend of mine is trying to talk me into watching the new series of American Horror Story because she says it's up my alley. Has anyone seen any of it so far?

Flash episode 3 was also pretty darn fun - which is particularly good as
most 3rd episodes of tv shows suck.

I've burned through all but the last episode of Bojack Horseman on Netflix, it's tremendously funny and surprisingly heartfelt and deep.

Also, Low Winter Sun is a very good cop show/crime drama (also on Netflix).

Penguin in Gotham is the show's Peter Dinklage. Whenever he shows up something fun happens.

Currently in the middle of a re-watch of Babylon 5, one of my favorite sci-fi tv shows.

In terms of things actively being broadcast, I need to catch back up on Doctor Who and I'm current with Legend of Korra and the Walking Dead.

Today I discovered how dangerous Netflix can be by watching far too many episodes of The West Wing.

Oh man - I've had that in my queue for a while now.

At least most of the smaller shows only have one or two seasons of 12 eps each.

Babylon 5 is truly ace. Sure, had patchy areas (some movies), but it really showed how great arc-based storytelling can be in a sci-fi (not to mention planning in advance).
Straczynskis currently working on a sci-fi for Netflix with the Wachowski siblings I have hopes for.

Anyway update;

Rewatching: Farscape

Best show atm: Person of interest (been killing it this season).

Biggest frustration: Who the hell is scheduling Gravity Falls? Is it any wonder people are abandoning broadcast TV when they cant even keep a show running for more then a few weeks in a row?

Oh man, I lost a fair few weeks to the West Wing a few years ago, it's sorely tempting to go watch it again after I finish House of Cards (I've watched to about ep 5, second series, but stopped)

There is some stuff that I'll just buy the box set and binge watch rather than give up time in the week.

Man, farscape was awesome too.

Oh, also: "Stalker" has the potential to be a pretty good creeping horror show, rather than a supernatural horror like all the others. Its currently a police procedural with a twist, like so many others, but it has potential there

Watched ep 7 of Gotham just now. Feels like the show's finally taking off. As if the first act is over.

Gotham is not at the peak of the Tv-business, no question.
But a lot of shows have managed to pull of a good story with mediocre writing and acting (looking at you arrow!).
I like the bits and pieces, I like Gordon, the Penguin is really really good.
Zasz in the last episode was a lot of fun.
I can understand why a lot of people have a problem with Alfred. Most portrayals are very different. But in the same way I like that the Waynes seem not to be the innocent philanthropists in this continuity I can feel the idea to have with Alfred not just a butler, but also someone who can protect them. Alfred was often portrayed as a former soldier, intelligence operative or something similar.
Also, has Sean Pertwee ever been considered as Bond? He kind of fits...

Pertwee could be a Bond, didn't think of that.
This isn't the first time there has been a rough and ready Alfred. I think it's a 3D animated Batman tv series Alfred was in the army.
