I wrote a book! Beneath the Blast, available now!

Postby Jamfalcon » 15 Nov 2014, 17:25

Hey everyone! So as some of you probably know from my various comments over the last few years, I've been putting pretty well all my time into the pursuit of publishing a novel. Well, the wait (admittedly, it was mostly me doing the waiting) is finally over! My book, Beneath the Blast, is a suspenseful thriller, and is now available both as an e-book and as a real pile of paper you can hold and smell.

The premise: a new reality show pits ten contestants against one another, confined to a cramped bunker deep underground. But when the production crew learns that they are trapped with no way of contacting the world above, they are faced with a difficult choice: do they reveal the truth and risk panicking the players, or continue with the increasingly cutthroat game?

You can read more about the book at my website, jeffrorik.com, and you can see a sample or order in ebook or print format it from a wide variety of retailers, listed here.

Anyhow, I appreciate all the support members of this forum have provided over the years, not to mention being my go-to way to take a short break from writing, and I hope if any of you decide to give the book a try you enjoy it!

Thank you! I know this is an area you have a lot of experience in. :)

Yeah, it's okay. I did have one proofreader who thought it was pretty good, though. ;)

By the way, the Kindle version just launched today! The print version is also 10% off on Amazon. Which isn't under my control, so I have no idea how long it will last for! :D

March, get money together over this period. I am moving to my grandparents in London for better jobs and help them out as they are in their mid eighties. Still very with it but they have shown some signs of being forgetful.

My grandparents are kind of at the same point, so I can definitely understand that. That should make for an interest change for you, hope it goes well. :)

Awesome, congrats! I'm not sure if I can pick it off right now but I'll put it on my list!

EDIT: It's actually really cheap! I'll probably pick it up next paycheque although I won't get to read it right away.

Aaand bought! Not sure when I'll have a chance to read it, but when I do I'll let you know what I think :) (I got it through Barnes and Noble since I have a nook. Not sure if that makes a difference to you).

Thank you! I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts. :)

Regarding retailers, it doesn't make a huge difference. My royalties aren't drastically different from one or another, so I would generally just say people should shop wherever is the easiest for them. That said, I do always enjoy hearing where someone bought it from, just to sate my curiosity when I look at the numbers!

Hmm. You've put me in something of a pickle, Jamworth. I want to buy it and support a friend, but really the only time I get to read are with audiobooks at work. Maybe I'll buy it just to have it.

Proooobably not in the cards for quite some time. You are the second person to ask, though so who knows, if the demand gets high enough, it's possible.

Maybe you could find some sort of text to speech thing and hear the entire thing in a horrible robotic voice? :P

I had a sudden vision of Graham reading it in his Dave's Spokesman voice.

"Come on down to Dave's Discount Audiobooks. Today we're...reading Beneath THE Blast by some guy I don't know cause I lost the paper, it's gonna be a goooood time!"

If this ends up bringing the millions, I would absolutely hire Graham to do an alternate audiobook like that. Possibly the serious version too, now that I think of it...

You could get the forums to do it. You know we probably would. :P

Ha, this is true. :P

Given that the last audiobook I listened to came on a cassette, I'm not the most knowledgeable about the format. But if that did sound up someone's alley, I'm sure we could figure it out.
