Hey there LRR forums. Its been far too long.
Anyway I've been helping a friend with some audio equipment but there's always this god awful hiss in the recordings. He's got a RODE videomic and a zoom H4N, using a boompole and a XLR extension cable to hook the whole shebang together. I remember Graham mentioning something about playing a tone into the other input from a LRRcast way waaay back.
Any advice from aspiring videographers.
A technical question.

Re: A technical question.
Have you tried a spectrum analyzer and if so, what frequencies are you getting for the hiss? My first guess would be grounding issues or crossfeed from power to audio cables.

Sorry for the delay in answering, apparently I look like I smuggle heroine...
I am a complete novice when it comes to audio, how would I go about grounding the equipment?
On the spectrum analyser, can you recommend a cheap one?
