Steven Universe
Cookie Cat! HE LEFT HIS FAMILY BEHIND.
We've got threads for other shows - why not SU? I'm excited for this coming StevenBomb, but I'm also going to have to avoid spoilers because I'm having friends over and we're watching all the new ones on Friday.
In the meantime, however... discussions? Theories? Go!

Re: Steven Universe
I am so far behind, but my fiancé and kids love this show. The first song my baby sang (20 months old right now) was "Stronger than you".
It is a great show. Really cute and great for kids and adults. Now I have to go watch it.

An article on the recent developments in the show (so, of course major spoilers abound if you're not caught up): [url]http://www.themarysue.com/steven-universe-and-fandom/[url]
It's interesting to me to hear that some people are against Pearl now, because everyone I know only has the deepest sympathy and compassion for her at this point. She's clearly in a LOT of pain.

Re: Steven Universe
I love this show so much. All the stuff that article covers is pretty much why. All of the characters have depth. They have flaws, they have weakness, but also strength, and love, and it's all so refreshing to see.
I also love the writing. We've barely seen Rose Quartz at this point, but most of what you learn about her is from other people talking about her. And not what they say, in an exposition-y way, but more how they talk about. Especially Pearl and Greg.
For those who are caught up (because spoilers) this is also a really good read: http://www.btchflcks.com/2015/06/strong-in-the-real-way-steven-universe-and-the-shape-of-masculinity-to-come.html.

Another essay (with spoilers for very recent episodes) on rape and consent, and how Steven Universe employed allegories for those in great and enlightening ways: http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/14/8961119/what-a-childrens-show-can-teach-us-about-sex-and-healthy-relationships

Re: Steven Universe
Really appreciating how they're keeping the topic of consent going in this latest StevenBomb.
Tricking someone into an intimate situation, even when they then give consent freely and enjoy themselves, is still a terrible breach of trust. Doing that even in general is not great, but it's especially bad when it's to do with something as intimate as fusing or sex. Man, this is a good show.

*Such* a good show.
Most of us are watching it now, thanks to Ash. Not everyone yet.

I'm going to get my little brother to watch it. I assume he'll absorb the good lessons in this better than being taught them. Also the music will help him.

Re: Steven Universe
SUCH GOOD SONGS. Such good songs.
Re: Steven Universe
And such fine character writing. Bold, direct, heartwrenchingly earnest.
I nearly cried in front of my brother when we saw "Lion 3". I couldn't do that even when our mom died.
This show is everything I never knew I wanted. And even the fighty gimmicky stuff is so well thought out and significant. Like how they say Neon Genesis Evangelion is a giant robot show like Twin Peaks is a cop show? Well Steven Universe is a show about living space rocks with magic powers fighting over the future of life on this planet, and it works, and it's just that show on top of all the real stuff.
In conclusion, soo good.

Ghat damn it. All my friends have told me I'd love this show, I think I'll love this show, I just have to actually go and watch it! Now I have to not read this thread for a while until I catch up.

Re: Steven Universe
I haven't quite fallen in love with a show like Steven Universe for a long time. With Desert Bus hype starting up, I decided to mash the two up
"If you're Eastbound and you need a ride,
You can count on our tour bus taking you there.
'Cause we're cool, and people never beg us,
We'll ditch Tucson and then go out to Vegas.
We're Desert Bus for Hope.
We drive for Child's Play.
And if you like our stuff,
Please help us fund a day.
It's why the people who love games believe in:
Kathleen, Graham and Paul, and James, And Ian..."

Re: Steven Universe
I binged this show last week. I was really surprised with the level of depth. The emotions of all the characters really come together well.

Re: Steven Universe
It's nice to have continuity in a cartoon, and with no padding.
#43 felt like a cheeky satire of the adults who get obsessed with the show. And then it reminds us why we love it. Dem feels.

Re: Steven Universe
I like the mechanics of fusion. Fusion between two gems who love each other. It doesn't specify if it's romantic. So it's really nice to have a show marketed towards children that expresses close relationships between people that isn't based in being sexual or romantic.
There are romantic relationships in the show. It's just refreshing that it shows you can have a deep love for someone without wanting to put your thing in their deep itself.
I like how the female characters are portrayed. I like how the male characters are portrayed. I forget it's a show marketed at children sometimes. It's just so well made.
If anyone saw Wizards Vs Aliens (UK Children's programme), they had an awesome episode called Floor 13. It was mature and well written. Steven Universe is like that for every episode.

Re: Steven Universe
Watched all the current episodes.
Y there B a Hiatus?
Really well written for all characters.
Peridot's arc is really interesting. I relate to that "saying things to be "cool" but actually being hurtful". I feel like she and Amephyst will become buddies. Either Amy or Steve will be the first to fuse with Perdidot.

Re: Steven Universe
The boyfriend and I are holding off on watching them until the end of the week because we want to watch them all at once, but gosh is it tough to do so.
Re: Steven Universe
Oh wow todays episode...
Peridot is officially a crystal gem! She told off Yellow Diamond. YD was piiiiised. I really liked how hurt Peridot was when YD asked which Peridot, she's gotten used to being treated like an individual by the others. Definitely my favorite episode of the week so far. Cant wait for tomorrow.
