PAX AUS 2015: Loading Ready Run Fanmeet!

Hey all!

So a bit belatedly, I'm trying to organise our fan meet for this year! Let's look at what's on offer:

Image

Last year we did Bangpop for dinner and it went really well, so I'm proposing to do so again as a fan meetup dinner. Alternative suggestions are welcome, please post them in this thread.

Image

Since we have a whole bunch of Magic players in our group too, how about a Conspiracy draft? It's fun and goofy and anyone can join in. If you do have sleeves, I'd be appreciative of your bringing them. Otherwise, I'll bring all the cards! No charge! Good to all LRR fans!

To help me organise, I've made a survey for all LRR fans coming to PAX Aus. Please fill it out so we have an idea of numbers and can organise times! Send it out to any LRR fans you know will be there!

For everyone's information, for the food event we currently have:

Antitonic (+1?)
Duckay
EikoandMog (+1?)
JackSlack
nicholasmc1
Yoshi_Gal (+1?)
(And probably Korvys... +1.)

For the MTG event, we have:

Antitonic (+1?)
Duckay
JackSlack
Eikoandmog
(and probably Korvys)

Please feel free to pass this page and the survey to any Australian LRR fans you know!

I'll pop in to say Gday for the draft.
Never played magic before so I'll watch and pretend to know what's going on.

Ok! Make sure you fill in the survey. Still want to schedule for everyone.

Stateside LRR fan going to PAX for the first time (and AUS for the first time), so I am definitely in to meet friendly faces, especially if they can advise me about tourism for the week I'm sticking around after the con.

Woohoo! Please do fill in the survey, DaMullet; I'll be making reservations soon.

The survey seemed to suggest that any meetup would happen on the Friday. Is there no possibility for Saturday, then?

My list of things I want to see seems less full on Saturday.

Nevermind, I just didn't get far enough in.

OK. I'm crunching numbers. For lunch, the odds are REALLY clear.

12 noon - 2pm on Saturday is clear for everyone, which is kinda remarkable. A few people will be just coming out of panels. Korvys and myself will be dashing out to get to Nidhogg. But if we tried to do 12:15-1:15 for lunch, we could probably do this with everyone.

What do people think?

Edit: Fallback position would be early lunch, 11-12:15, on Sunday. Yoshi_Gal might have to dash out at 11:45 to make her panel there, though.

As for the Magic crew, two questions.

Right now, our Magic crew respondents are (EDIT BECAUSE I FAIL AT READING SURVEY RESULTS)

Antitonic
Duckay
DaMullet
EikoandMog
JackSlack
korvys
And maybe Omega Lairon?

That's six-seven people which is great!

So question 1: Would 5pm on Friday suit 10am Sunday suit for a Magic game, which is the best time for the Magic players from what I can see?

Question 2: Do we want to invite some non-Runners to the game to fill out the final spots? If not, do we want to play Commander or do a mini-LRR Standard tournament?

I definitely remember answering Aye to the magic part - Did something get et?

edit -

Also I definitely prefer to draft, Commander is very not my format and my standard decks tend to be ~40% borrowed from friends the day before events.

As far as the Magic goes, if not draft then I vote Commander as a backup. Of course, this may just be my bias having just finished building a Commander deck, and not having a Standard deck. :P

Ahh! You did. OK, let me recalculate...

Right then. Our best bet for Magic is probably early Sunday, 10-12. Plenty of time, and all the Magic people are free at that time. Plus we should be able to snap up a table quick then.

Also, neat! If we have Omega Lairon, that'd give us 6-7 people! We could very potentially do that with maybe even one more for a full 8 if we're lucky!

If you were to look at my schedule and fill in all the gaps with either "Aimless wandering" or "JS Joust", you'd be pretty close.

If you included, "or whatever Duckay's doing" you'd have mine. :)

But ok! Schedule:

Loading Ready Run PAL UP: Saturday 12:15-13:30 at Bangpop.

A PAX Conspiracy: Sunday 10-12am in Tabletop.

Any objections?

Sounds good.

It didn't occur to me until just now to mention it, but I'll be in cosplay all three days. My outfit for Saturday is probably the best for going out for lunch in, so this works out well!

And I can confirm that it will just be myself attending.

You're in luck the domestic state cricket season starts that weekend!
And it's only $5 entry.

So if you want to be really confused about rules and a little bit bored I'll be there.

I'd recommend just going to see the mcg it would easily be Australia's most famous stadium.

Edit:wow if you're around the Tuesday after you'll be in Melbourne for the Melbourne cup.

It's a very big horse race and the city (and in a smaller regard the whole country) goes crazy. It's a pretty good day.

Oh, NEAT, yeah. If you can, go to the Melbourne Cup for SURE.

BTW: Barring anyone stating that they can't do the above events, I'll be making booking for Bangpop today in 90-100 minutes.

Booking has been made for 13 people.

Guest list is...

JackSlack
Duckay
Antitonic +1
Yoshi_Gal
EikoandMog +1
nicholasmc1
DaMullet +2
Korvys +1

So I'll make the booking for 13 people?

(Also, with Dr. Seuss in I think we're up to 8 or maybe even nine for the Conspiracy draft, which will be interesting. :D )

The +2 I'm bringing to lunch are hosting a house party for the cup that I've been invited to, they seemed very excited about it.

The Race That Stops the Nation is no small matter in the Australian psyche. Pretty much every office in the country will have a small party for it; seriously, a LOT of Australia stops for it. It's kind of weird, to be honest!

Offices in New Zealand, too. It's weird. Any excuse for a celebrations, I suppose.

Hey everyones!

Sorry, I meant to chime in on this topic much earlier... I thought I had, but clearly I'm just going senile or something.

The good news is, as (probably) guessed, I'm listed under Antitonic's "+1+", so it looks like I'm already accounted for in the surveys and bookings and what have you, so my finally bothering to speak up at this late stage shouldn't ruin anything.

Sorry again, I'm not good at most things : \

Also on the subject of tourism, are there any events (aside from the concert on Saturday which I am stoked for) that y'all think are not to be missed? I'm pretty bad at going to cons, and usually end up paralyzed with indecision if I don't have someone with a plan nearby to follow.

S'all good! :D You're accounted for and Antitonic let me know about it. Looking forward to drafting with you.
