For improvising: any fretted instrument (in my case; guitar)
For spoken word: Kete (ghanaian instrument sometimes known as a talking drum)
oh and I play
guitar - bass - whole slew of ghanaian instruments - accordian - trumpet - some flutes (badly)

I learned guitar before bass, and most of the bassists I know did the same thing. With some work on you fingers, bass is pretty much the same thing only in bass clef and - the B and E string. But I play with a jamaican drummer who is learning bass, and he seems to be having an easier time with bass than guitar, so I guess you never know.

The oboe. Because I like to say "Oboe".

Try it now, you'll see.
"I swear it," said the other mother. "I swear it on my own mother's grave."

"Does she have a grave?" asked Coraline.

"Oh yes," said the other mother. "I put her in there myself. And when I found her trying to crawl out, I put her back."

You stole mine! Those are awsome instruments.
I used to play Trumpet, and that kicks ass. I also used to play Recorder and was SO GOOD at it, if I kept with I'd be like, a pro Recorder player.

And I will deliver them from the kingdom of pain

And send the monsters back to the underground

I've always been rather fond of the Harpsicord.

Sweet!
I played in a Mbira and Marumba band in college. Nothing is better than playing the Clash on an African wooden xylophone.

Clarinets of all sorts, but particularly the two that I play: Bb (the one that everybody plays in high school) and Eb (sort of like the piccolo of clarinets).
