LRR's most "visual-comedy" videos
LRR's most "visual-comedy" videos
Greetings, eh?
Unsure whether GD is a good place for this, or LRR Video discussion. Let's start here.
I need some help. I want to get a 20-30 minute block of videos together to run silently on a video screen at our convention booths. But WHICH videos should I use?
Since this is to silently attract people, I don't mind if it's stuff that we do rarely (like animated sequences from the Pocket Planes videos). What I need are videos that are visually attractive.
Ideas include:
- "X ways to Y"
- the Pocket Planes shorts
- MTG Crapshots with an obvious visual gag
- maybe the MTG spoiler card shorts?
"The Couch" may translate to visual comedy, since even when muted it's pretty easy to infer what's going on if you pay attention. The length of it isn't ideal, though.
I'd like to have this put together before the Tuesday prior to PAX East, but continued suggestions past that point would still be helpful.
Anyone got any favourites?

While I don't know how much of the actual joke will come through, Doctors Hate Her is definitely one that stands out visually and has a lot going on, quick pacing, all that.
Papers, Please, also could grab the eye given the background, and the connection to the game might be effective at PAX.
Who You Gonna Call could be worth a look? The joke about the logos would certainly translate without sound, although I can't recall much else visual during it.

I'll do some watching of things on mute. For a lot of the sketches, though, I think you'd want to give them a re-edit.
I think The Wire could work well, what with the random people coming in shot. http://loadingreadyrun.com/videos/view/2247/The-Wire
Third Wheel Dating could be amazing if some of the talking bits were cut. Kathleen's scenes are absolutely fantastic, even without the voiceover. http://loadingreadyrun.com/videos/view/2169/Third-Wheel-Dating
SPRING! could also be good, though you'd want to cut some of the segments, like the one about tourism. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/loadingreadyrun/7291-SPRING
I think Occupied would be good, especially with the Day X shots. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/loadingreadyrun/6116-Occupied
Ransom is also pretty good. It suffers a bit in the middle with the deaf brother, but having them kidnap each other is pretty funny. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/loadingreadyrun/3327-Ransom
If you don't mind going really far away from what you usually do, what about some of the Daily Drop videos? The pudding condom is fantastic. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/daily-drop/3273-Pudding-Condom
EDIT: One crapshot that would work really well is The Peel. http://loadingreadyrun.com/videos/view/2527/Crapshots-Ep288-The-Peel
EDIT2: It might be a bit too inside baseball for a "Here's what we've done" reel, but The Binder works well without sound. http://loadingreadyrun.com/videos/view/2466/Crapshots-Ep264-The-Binder

While Sound Wars (currently offline) does rather involve sound effects, it also mostly works as a silent film.

I found some more crapshots:
The Prisoner, though you may or may not want to include it since it is in the LRR overview video that Graham plays at the panels.
The Hood
The first half of The Dice, leaving it after you see the Lick Toes dice.
The Shave

The LoadingReadyRumbles will make very little sense without context, but they are very visually interesting.
Just for shits and giggles, might I suggest Epic Nunchuk Fail
In a more serious suggestion Social Anxiety Fear Factor

So this one's a little longer, but Doctor's hate her would totally work https://youtu.be/-9vuBiW7lfY
Ways to blow the kickerstarter money - https://youtu.be/Uy-DBMZ6ZCA
Crapshot 315 - The elegant weapon https://youtu.be/3ea6t6QOKVk
Crapshot 311 - The caberet https://youtu.be/WivgqkE8Mp0
Crapshot 305 - The tough guy https://youtu.be/3w0ubttI60k
And I am going to get super old here, but the first season of Crapshots has a ton of great visual gags.
#6 - The Technique https://youtu.be/lBvx2YE0O9M
#13 - The Camouflage https://youtu.be/NnxqsBCYpio (And I think there was a visual camo followup to this video but I can't remember what it is called....)
#15 - The Note https://youtu.be/7pWUPiSjbpM
#19 - The Cardboard https://youtu.be/bCprGywd_zI
#69 - The Aim https://youtu.be/2ueeI1E3Sy0
Also very long, but if you want to cut out certain clips, there are definitely some beautiful shots to use from both of these...

War Of Christmas would work pretty well, as it was essentially silent anyway.

Re: LRR's most "visual-comedy" videos
Just to be clear, are you looking for whole sketches, or any specific part of a sketch that would make for a good visual gag? Because entire sketches seem much more difficult.
The Couch seems like one of the few that would work well. But even then, I'm not sure the imagery would really work as a good draw. Similarly, Son of a Bitch and the Axe Hand videos all seem like people could follow them, but not enough to draw peoples' attention. The only full sketch I can think of off the top of my head that seems like it could work as a draw without sound would be Destiny Tales.

The pwnage segment from that one cH might work("Pwn, pwnage, pwnageddon. I pwned your ass, I pwned your face, I pwned your face with my ass..."), if we're talking about short sections of things aswell.

I was always a fan of Suspiciously Good Movers and Staggeringly Fast Loans, and I think both of those work soundlessly.
Edit: The end of these with all the Pauls are the part that works soundlessly. They're still some of my favorites.

Whole sketches would be great, except that anything like "The Secret Life of Toast" or "The Couch" run the risk of being too long to capture anyone's interest in a crowded convention. So I'm reconsidering my previous position on using one of those.
"X Ways to Y" have the benefit of being visual and have quick cuts between the gags. But I can't rely upon nothing but "X Ways to Y" to be the whole sizzle reel.
I'm also not looking to edit or take cuts from any of the previous sketches, because I don't have the time to sink into doing that.
We'll almost certainly have other things in the reel, but this was a simple way to get started.

If Crapshots are in, #22: The Drainage might work. Maybe also #13: The Camouflage, #79: The Exhibits, or #17: The Bathroom.
EDIT: Also #54: The Drink. As for full sketches, perhaps Reality Tear could work?
