What Were Your DB10 Highlights?

Postby Robo4900 » 19 Nov 2016, 02:13

See title.

For me, every time they played Change or One Word Story are the big ones -- particularly this one.

Too many to name, so here's just a few...

Numerous Feels Hours...

Uptown Frump of course...

The graph going vertical at the end...

Goth Tally...

Katiee...

Dix #420BlazeIt...

Andy...

Gundam Alex...

Cam's keyboard...

GhettOverlay...

Graham's entrance...

ALL the Markov chains...

In no particular order:

-Alex's final speech.

-The Lip Sync Battle.

-Beej's Zeta Shift improv games.

-The CRAZY final spike in donations towards the end.

-Ben's Magic card tarot readings.

-Phil Plait's call in and live auction.

And many more, but you know how when someone asks you what you're favourite film is you forget every single film you've ever seen? I've got that going on right now.

Ben's various villainous characters during Zeta were among my favourite things this year. Cam and Alex doing 'They're made out of meat'. Goth Tally and Katiee. Jer's pillow/ladder/other stuff mausoleum. Jer actually managing to do well at Mario Kart and not crash the bus. And of course the finale, us going from 600k to nearly 700k so very quickly, and all the related feels.

So much good things year.

Being ego eccentric though, it had to be Kathleen reading a story from the fanficmaker.com site and then getting a slump interview for it....and then cosplay of Serenity Darkmoon Raven!

Zippo-Tricks McEdgelord
Jer and Tally singing Linkin Park
The impromptu $4.20 name challenge
The $50k in half an hour right at the end.

Didn't get to watch as much as I wanted due to work and school, but still a great year!

Echoing Sieg's comments about Ben. For this if nothing else

EDIT: Also, this was my challenge and in hindsight, I'm super pleased with how well it worked out.

The whole run was really filled with highlights and good moments.

but that surprise hour was really the best moment as everyone lost their minds.

Kathleen's sobbing while reading about tax receipts caught me SO off-guard. My sides were killing me.

All the things mentioned so far were awesome (in the many different ways in which DB is awesome), but so far unmentioned is the Liz interviewing the Doc crew interviewing Liz bit. PURE GOLD.

I was just about to say that was one of my favorite moments of the whole entire run.

On top of that:
-14th century Desert Bus. (I absolutely LOST it when Ian gave his challenge.)
-Serenity Darkmoon Raven.
-People slowly discovering they could do crazy things with their donor names, and Graham being outright astounded that someone got their name in there in Papyrus.
-The Banjo-Kazooie music.
-The overlay gaining new awesome features throughout the run. (Seriously Engineering, you guys are the absolute best. <3 )
-Basically every single thing Cori did.

It was a surprise, yeah, I didn't think it was going to happen until after the deed had been done... but looking back on it, once the momentum got started, it really shouldn't have been a surprise that it carried all the way past DB9.

The chat may have been going too fast for the room, but having been in that chat [and apparently I was the most talkative person in said chat over the run, which, yay?], there was one word that emerged way more than any other, and which goes a long way towards explaining what happened.

That word was 'Bill'.

Chat's largely accepted, by way of DB9 running ahead of DB10 most of the way, that sooner or later they're not going to match the previous year, but... with the difficult year that everyone had coming in, with Bill watching, with Kate in the chat also watching and chat having found out about her earlier in the day, with the very last lot up, and James laying down a hard deadline to get the hour before time extensions were cut off for thank yous... with all that, chat decided, all at once, that they may not top the previous year at some point, sure, but they weren't going to let that point be now. Chat put its foot down and absolutely refused to let DB9 defeat them. To do so, chat reasoned, would be to let Bill down. The first extra hour came quick- chat knew they had to get it fast and nobody wanted to be the straggler- and then once the momentum got going, the realization came pretty fast that the other extra hour was reachable too and, with it, DB9.

It was a very nice lot from Wyrmwood, but really the lot could have been anything. An uncut Magic sheet. A Fangamer shirt. A cat hairball. All that mattered was that it was the last lot. Those wallets were opening and nothing was going to stop them until DB9 was in the rearview mirror. Only after people started calling DB9 defeated, first the on-air total and then the grand total, did the firehose finally start to slow down.

It was a Wyrmwood lot, but really, it was a Do Right By Bill lot.

I think it was on Ashton and Jamie's Zeta shift, which if you haven't seen it you probably should catch up on most of it, because it was a really good one. We also had Ben turning into Dr. Mr. Generic Villain for the first time, taking the point hostage, and inflicting the Device on Ashton; a couple of feels times, including a very sweet moment when Pika sang 'Here Comes a Thought'; QWOPping with pronunciation guide and half-speed glass shark, and a bunch of great stories.

EDIT: I guess this post became 'What were your Ashton&Jamie shift highlights?'

Yeah, I was asleep for... yeah, all of those highlights. I caught like the first quarter of Ashton and Jamie's shift before sleeping.

There was a lot of great moments; the gameshows, Gypsy Rover, Cam's Civ talks, Andy and many many more
But the one thing that stands above all of those in my mind is Alex's speech.
For me that is THE moment of this years desertbus

Any of the overlay font pranks for starters. Graham giving Ashton the only humane treatment in response to the Papyrus in particular.

Per day? James licking the desk (shudder), Cam x Alex doing They're Made of Meat, goth Tally, Kate being outed for serial pie murder, Emily's response to Ian's suggestion that she has time to make another sweater, Liz documenting the Documentary crew, Alex's Onyxia raid wipe. Ack, nerd sniped down memory lane, bad.

(Ladythrimbletrimmer here) It's a little late for this, but I really enjoyed Paul singing my rewrite of C'est Moi. I meant to say thanks on the stream, but my schedule keeps conflicting with times he's on.
