Favorite sound in a video game

Postby YamaroV2 » 29 Nov 2006, 00:05

Yep. Kinda hard to make it a poll.. But.. Your favorite sound. It can be music, sound effect, voice, whatever. Just something I've always wondered about.

Me? My pants shrink when I hear the cries of pain from the mutated Mother Brain in Super metroid when you dont stop hitting her with the Hyper beam.

The sound of twelve Yamato cannons going off at once in Starcraft.
"I swear it," said the other mother. "I swear it on my own mother's grave."

"Does she have a grave?" asked Coraline.

"Oh yes," said the other mother. "I put her in there myself. And when I found her trying to crawl out, I put her back."

Freud would have a fucking field day.

Personally, I've never noticed the sound effects in video games much, but the music for Maridia in Super Metroid sticks in my mind as being awesome.

Actually, I'm playing through Final Fantasy III again on the SNES while I hole up and wait for exams to pass, and it has fan-fucking-tastic music. It's all so simplistic and melody-led. You can just tell he sat down and wrote out a catchy melodic theme for everything and then just fleshed out the rest later. Normally, that would be bad, but I think it really works well with the limited number of instruments and the low sound quality the SNES was able to produce.

Myst Linking sound. I love how you guys use that in "The Mirror." Why don't you use it for every/most/some more teleportation sound effects? It's such a classic.

The little revving noise Sonic makes in them good ol' Genesis games.

Oh, and that ringing in Zelda games you get when you do something right.

A storm that will swallow the children
And I will deliver them from the kingdom of pain
I will deliver the children back the their doorsteps
And send the monsters back to the underground

Hmm thats a hard one... possibly the sound of kirby jumping in mid air, or the sound of mario swimming maybe... in the original mario I mean.

I'm totally stealing Jer's alert noise.

When I saw that you were the last poster on this thread, I had the hugest feeling you would say that. Weird.
