new to LLR forums

Postby Man In Black1612 » 07 Dec 2006, 17:58

hello everybody. My name's Paul and I am 16. I have only known about this site for the past 2 weeks, heres how it happened. My brother called me own day while i was over at his house. At once he made me sit down and watch several videos from LLR, I couldn't stop watching them( how to talk like a pirate was my first one) , i am now trying to watch all the videos and i am enjoying it throughly.

My hobbies include gaming, technical theater, motorcycles , watching immense quantities of tv and online videos. many many other things.

At my school they have a new fliter up which blocks students from going to not school appropriate ( i.e. games, video sites, porn, etc) but by the grace of god i have been able to get to LLR. My grades have slowly declined.

Ill be on pretty often if anyone wants to have a chat

My highschool did that too. It was horrible. A few months after facebook came out they realized that was ALL students were doing and blocked it. There were mobs.

That was the same way at our high school, though it was more MySpace than Facebook. People still found ways around the blocks though, our IT class was a bunch of hackers.

having sites blocked just turned every student into a hacker, everyone passes codes around and different sites that you are able to get to. example they had all of the google picture and video seaches blocked so it was a pain for projects but the single minded adults in my school did not block google canada ( canada 1 - school system 0 ).

My school blocked things very oddly - they blocked Questionablecontent.net but not Somethingpositive.net. Something Positive is much, much more offensive! But it has a happy name ^_^

And then there was always the blocks on sites that you got to when you were looking things up for schoolwork :?

WTF? Something Positive has a comic about giving a coathanger to a pregnant ex-girlfriend as a baby shower gift! And that is just the first one!

How can they be offended by good, old-fashioned indie violence, and not this? (Although, I thought it was HILARIOUS)

"I swear it," said the other mother. "I swear it on my own mother's grave."

"Does she have a grave?" asked Coraline.

"Oh yes," said the other mother. "I put her in there myself. And when I found her trying to crawl out, I put her back."

I know! I mean, i wasn't going to say anything, I enjoyed reading it... but sometimes I think that the IT department was just a bunch of douches.

I remember that at my school they blocked sites based on keywords.
It was enough that a website had forums for "Power Metal" and "Black Metal" (miles between the words) and was blocked because the software saw "Black Power" there -.-
Once I couldn't read my emails via webmail because of some offensive SPAM...
Can't take the sky from me. Again.

Yeah, our school system uses BESS, a fucking dog that watches what we do. Basically, we used to be able to do google images by doing www.google.uk, but now we can't do any image searches. No emails work either, but we've figured out that if you can redirect around the proxy, it works. So we set up www.gmail.workisboring.com from a freewebs sort of site, it just redirects to gmail and gets around it...pretty nifty.
Our blocker is the worst, by the sounds of it. It blocks evertything fun, and if you can get around it somewhere, the people at the schools basically look where people went, and then block that page (thats how they found out about google.uk and other such things.)

Blocking email? that's kinda ridiculous. I used to send school work to myself ALL the time and print it at school! that blows.

Well, yes, we have that too..in bess.
Yeah it blocks email, tahnk god I can get around it...I can just email crap to myself instead of having to use my iPod as a USB and get weird looks from the librarians as I plug my iPod into the computer.
