YES!! I thouroughly enjoyed Timeline (not the best book ever, but a very enjoyable read) and thought that it was butchered in the movie. Speaking of Michael Chricton books that didn't translate well... Sphere! I really enjoyed this book when I read it, but I thought the movie was bad, bad bad! Also, I liked Jurassic Park the movie, but I thought the book was even better. I think it was even ranked in the top 100 books of the 20th century back when they had all those "Top 100" lists in 1999.

But for me, the #1 worst translated book from page the screen was, "The Relic". The movie was just plain awful, but the book was actually super good. I read in back in high school, and at the time, it turned into one of the best books I had read to that point. I still would rank it as one of my more memorable reads. I'd actually recommend going out and trying to find this book if you can. It had a great protagonist as well as a really great villian/monster.

Funny you should mention this. I got my WinXP news and it told us that the movie is available to DOWNLOAD from a site. The site also mentioned that there were misspellings all over the place and they used paper towerl cardboard tubes for some of the props.

True there are lasers that work using molecular vibration but they still produce light. The way lasers work depends a lot on quantum mechanics and does not work with the macroscopic mechanical waves that sound is made up of.

One worse movies that I have seen is the last Matrix movie.

Did you look at the Wikipedia link I provided? The movie was stupid for a variety of reasons, including misrepresenting "sound lasers", but there really are such things.

My personal favorite real weird science thing is the time reversal mirror. (It doesn't do what you think.)

Unlikely. I merely have a very broad and moderately shallow understanding of physics. (There are reasons I changed my major to Psychology halfway through college.)

Incidentally, "Primer" is a movie that's bad because it is so very, very good. I can't bear to watch it any more.

Ok, how far did you get with your physics studies? I am in my 3rd year on a combined dregree in physics and astronomy.

Two years. My mathematical skills simply aren't good enough to handle solving multidimensional differential equations on a regular basis, so I had a hard time with Intro to Quantum Mechanics.

I am, however, a great fan of science.

It made no sense and was so random, worst story line and ideas ever. Yet I finished the movie since I hate leaving something without knowing an ending.

Bah, my mom bought me that book as a present because they were filming the movie here in PG, and the book was TERRIBLE. The first half was creepy, and then Stephen King apparently watched too many episodes of the X-Files, and said "OMG, you know what would make my book awesome? ALIENS"

Okay...where's Geoff when I need him, anyway, I would have to say hands down the worst film I've ever seen is probably as far as bad-bad films is "Ladder 49" or the 1989 version of "Jouney to the Centre of the Earth". I'm not gonna comment on anyones choice of worst film cause opinion is personal...however I do have to comment on one, "Election" I have to say that if "Election" was the worst film I'd ever seen then I would be a happy man.
