ITT Triumphant Moments in Gaming

Postby YamaroV2 » 15 Feb 2007, 14:59

A less naggy/whiny/emo thread from the fingers of the furry.

Lulz.

Regardless, in this thread, we post our single (Double? Hell, let's have a flood) of our moments in gaming where we just sat there silent for like twenty seconds, then just had some sort of celebration over killing something/overcoming something, etc etc.

I'll start with... Just one, for now.

Cave Story. Final Boss. Redemption Ending.

Sinking -hundreds- of missiles into the skull of Ballos. The blood emitting from his pixelated face was awesome.

Defeating Cyberia. Oh baby. I watched that ending cinema-action over and over again...

Defeating Epyon in the Gundam Wing fighter game for the SNES. Somehow, I had the presence of mind before striking the final blow to get ready and take a few screenshots. I used one of them for my background for quite some time...a very badass moment of Deathscythe doing his big combo mid-air, with Epyon reeling backwards. Badass.

Seeing Gman's face in the intro to HL2 for the first time. I played HL1 probably 50 times before HL2 came out, and seeing the intro to that game instantly filled me with excitement.

Beating King K Rool at the end of Donkey Kong Country 2 on the SNES. My best friend, who was the best gamer I knew at the time, had been trying to beat the end boss for 2 weeks and I got there first.

Goldeneye: Beating Cradle on 00 Agent difficulty for the first time.

Most of my great moments happened during multiplayer games, by defeating opponents who were much better than me.

Most recent: Playing Goldeneye:Source Beta1 and hearing the remastered music/seeing my favorite game brought back to life on the PC. Overwhelmed with nostalgia.

Fucking YES!

On the theme of Final Fantasy...
All of my most memorable moments have really been from FFVII...

Top 3 are...
3. Getting the Golden Chocobo, after about a month of trying. Seriously, it took that long to get one that would be any good in the races...
2. Finally killing all of the WEAPONS. Ruby being the hardest, in my opinion. Emerald can do more out and out damage, but Ruby was a seriously fucking awkward fight. You only had 2 people, it CONTINUOUSLY kept doing status effects on you, making Ribbons totally necessary. Emerald was simply just a normal boss fight, just much more frantic healing, and a fucking lot longer. Still, Omnislash and Fury pwnd it hard...

And finally...

1. Aeris getting killed. Seriously. The first time I saw it, I actually cried. I shit you not. I cried at the sight of Sephiroth piercing this totally innocent character. She'd done nothing against him, yet he saw it fit to kill her, with no emotion at all. That seriously made him evil in my books, and made the victory in the end all the more sweeter...

And in the darkness lag them...

Hither came Conan the Cimmerian: black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer.

I actually freaked out at the end of Silent Hill 3 when Heather fake-acts like she's going to kill Douglas in the one ending. My friends and I were screaming "RUN DOUGLAS! RUN!"

Emerald AND Ruby weapon in one night.

I beat Emerald, and recieved a free Gold Chocobo for my efforts. Using that I went to the secret cave that had the Master Summon materia, linked it with W-Summon and hammered Ruby Weapon with it.

EAT IT.

Also, anytime I've ever nailed a boss suffering from Mega Man Syndrome*.

*An irriatating phenomenon particularly notorious in the Maga Man series whereby a boss will retain his very last sliver of life for an excruciatingly long time and stomp your ass while he's at it.

Oh, I must share one more. This was a golden moment.

My friend and I were playing Advance Wars DS (a cute little tactical wargame). The map was a very long little strip of island with opposing bases at either end. So he's hammering my forces and his army is advancing toward my doorstep. Things look bleak for me, but I had one dubious ace up my sleeve: A transport helicopter with a single infantry unit inside. Each turn, I sent it at maximum speed toward his base, and he consistenly ignored it as an insignificant threat. His army was nearly upon me when I finally unleashed my deadly master plan. I hit my Tag Power (Allows you to take two turns & triggers both super moves on your team), landed the chopper, unloaded the infantry, switched partners, and invaded his capital city using a character power that allows you to capture enemy properties in a single turn... And won the battle! (You lose if your forces are destroyed or your capital is captured)

I shouted so loud, everyone in the apartment freaked out. I owned the SHIT out of that guy.

Yeah I've played Advanced Wars, and that is AWESOME. Dumb move by your friend, but hey, very nicely done!

One time while playing Super Smash Brothers Melee, I was playing the event with the giant Yoshi (it's like number 2 or 3). Right when the Yoshi spawned, it fell of the edge of the map and died, so I won in less than .5 seconds.

Beat that record.

I was playing smash with my brother. We were playing best to 5 out of 9 (Yeah it's weird), him as Pikachu and me as Shiek (our two best characters). He won the first 4, then I made the most amazing comeback and won the next 5 in a row. So hard. SO AWESOME!
I was so incredibly pumped after that.
