I guess no one else is excited by this trailer.

I am.

I am.

It's interesting, because Liberty City was supposed to be a sort of stand-in for New York (as Vice City is to Miami and the state of San Andreas is to California and Nevada)... so to actually set a game in real actual New York I find very interesting. Not bad! Just... interesting.

I am fully behind the character. Dude already has story coming out the wazoo.

I was going to make a similar reference!

Actually, I was initially going to disparage it for that, but then I realized, I'm totally okay with The Getaway: New York.

It's not actually set in New York. You can see Liberty City written on lots of stuff in the trailer. The container ship and the ferry terminal are the most obvious, but there are liberty tree signs as well.

I'm so excited.

But... isn't the Statue of Liberty a bit overkill then?

whoever does the music over at rockstar is rad. the music here is reminiscent of bully, but way more sinister.

I was expecting GTA London or at least somewhere new but it looks like they gave in to the wining Americans found on any GTA forum "Keep it in America, I can't understand foreign accents".

Anyway I know its going to be 10x better the San Andreas. (gameplay wise I mean, The San Andreas story sucked. A ten year old could write a better story.)

How can you tell it's going to be a better story?
All I got from the trailer is:
You are a dude that was a bad guy, moved to liberty city beucase he wants to change.

that's the same as the other stories basically.

The story in San Andreas sucked because CJ never took charge. He just ran round doing what people wanted him to do. Why the fuck didn't CJ shoot Tenpenny?

HA HA
you gathered that the guy wasn't a wuss from the trailer? Because he smuggles and kills people? oh let's not forget he seels people too.

No wait... the trailer says he IS a wuss beucase he doesn't want to be a bad guy anymore.

What im trying to get at is that it's too early to know if the story will be good or not, all we can tell is that it has some purdy graphics.

Statue of Liberty, Chrysler Building, Times Square... it's pretty clearly not Liberty City.

Matt wrote:whoever does the music over at rockstar is rad. the music here is reminiscent of bully, but way more sinister.

The music is Philip Glass from the 1970s art movie Koyaanisqatsi. They are actually doing a direct parody by their use of "time lapse".
Here's a clip on the YouTubes. I love this movie, btw.
It was all photography and music, and nothing else. More.

Not a great "hey guys let's watch this" flic unless you know what you're in for, but recommended.

I didn't say that, I just said it's clear that the character has story to him. And I look forward to seeing what it is.

I should have made it clear that I have no problem with that.

Even if the story sucks, the chance to drive around new york will be awesome.

YES! Koyaanisqatsi is nothing short of AMAZING! I first saw it when I was 5 on LaserDisc (Oh yeah... DVD of the eighties!). I am so glad rockstar has good taste in movies. But I think I have to correct you on the date: It came out in 1982.

I don't know. I think it may be a non-canon (new-canon?) Liberty City, just based off of New York. Also I heard that this is more modern day, where as Liberty City was based when? There are also rumors that Vice City and San Andreas will be part of it as well.

Although, I'm getting my information from a friend, I haven't actually seen any of the trailers.

Liberty City in GTA III is modern day.
Liberty has always been a parallel to NY, with neighbourhoods and landmarks inspired by, and similar to the real place, but never so completely.

Again, I'm not down on it, just very curious, and I am fully behind this.

Favorite building in the whole trailer.

And I am so psyched to get this when it comes out. There will be a PS2/X360 release, right?

Also, wasn't Liberty City modeled after New York to begin with? Like in GTAIII? So is this looking so much more like New York really all that surprising?

Actually it was modeled after New York in GTA.
Without a number.
The 2D game.

And you mean a PS3-release, Taz, right?
If they bring those graphics to the PS2...
Can't take the sky from me. Again.
