The Orange Box
An epic moment in videogaming.
So epic in fact, that I went out and bought it even though I don't own a machine that runs windows. My roomate does, however, and I've now installed the whole nine yards on there, which means...
Who wants some Team Fortress 2 action? I know there's a couple of y'all lurking around here - I wanted to try and get a game going maybe tomorrow afternoon or a couple of times next week during my study break.
Also, the cake is a lie.

I'm in the same boat. I don't know how I missed out on all this Half-Life business, it's fantastic! Of course I'm just getting around to it now because I've been playing Portal so much.

Portal is great. I've played through the main portion twice now (once with commentary), and I just finished the advanced bonus levels last night (the *&@#ing turret ones are hard!!) I still have the other bonus maps to complete.
I haven't touched Team Fortress 2 since I played it in beta for prepurchasing on Steam. It's fun, and will probably consume a lot of my time when/if I tire of Portal. And then eventually I'll get around to playing Episode 2. I want to re-play Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 first.
Is anybody playing this on the Xbox 360? I would think Portal would be pretty difficult with a controller, but then I've always been a mouse/keyboard kind of person.
I wonder how long before we start seeing custom Portal maps.

Yeah, I don't have a PC (hence no Half-Life before now) and I have no problem with it.
I can easily use a controller, or a mouse and keyboard, so I don't see the whole debate. I think people who are used to mouse and keyboard just hate using controllers.

Well that's not the case for me =P I prefer using my 360 controller on my PC when playing portal.. although keyboard and mouse for everything else, XD
Also it's too bad the orange box doesn't use live for windows on the pc side._. Cross-platform TF2 could have been awesome.
EDIT: Nice companion cube avvie, alex.
Friend of the Lemon Tree, Perhaps you forgot.

Team motherfucking fortress 2. It is made of win and teamwork.
Don't forget rocket jumping and Kill-O-Matic turrets.
On the subject of controller vs Mouse, it depends on how the game is made. I'm ok with both, but I can't see playing Gears with a keyboard and mouse, whereas I can't see playing CS with a controller.

I'm fairly resistant to change, so a lot of it has to do with that. I can usually "get by" with using controllers for first person games (for some reason, I do much better using a controller for 3rd person games), but it's just much easier for me to use a mouse. It's just what I'm used to. I don't necessarily think one is inherently worse than the other, just that one is better for me.
It's the same reason I have trouble using Linux, or playing RTS games. I'm certainly capable of learning how to become proficient at them, I just don't like change.

I have not played enough fps using a controller to really compare it with a keyboard and mouse. However I have found my aimming to be terrible but then again I am a bit of a slow learner.
Team Fortress 2 - So much fun. Worth the price of the orange box by its self. I like being an engineer but not when there is a spy around.
Episode 2 - Mixed feelings. I enjoyed parts of it, but I did not get into it the way I have in the other Half Life games. It felt very much like an episode and I did not like the openning cinematic rehashing Episode 1. I think the game trailers and other pre release info gave too much away along with it needing too be longer. It should have had another large fight against Combine infantry.
Portal - I am just a couple hours in but I am not sure about it. More game play will be required.

We are all made of star dust. However we are also made of nuclear waste.
Remember to think before you post.

You know for a fact that people like Adam, Ben, James and I are used to, and good at, using both. =P

Controllers just seem a little bit clunky to me. More difficult. It takes me hours to get used to one after not using it for a while.
BUT. TF2 is FREAKING AMAZING!!! Srsly. I need to get my new computer fixed (read: mail in faulty RAM) and once I do that, I'll be back to playing a CRAPLOAD Of TF2.
It's so.awesome.
