LRR: Script Submissions

Postby Graham » 12 Dec 2007, 19:58

[Cross-posted, because people always ask us.]

The Aftermath, The Worst Homosexual, Morning After, Johnny the Intern, (most of) Holiday, and Rebellin' were all written by the stellar Johnny_Lunchbox. (Who we only met well after we'd used several of his scripts, which he just submitted them to us.)

Also, Xavier and Toilet Humour are Andy originals.

The following is designed to be blunt, honest and to-the-point.
Basically, if you want to submit a script to us, here's what to keep in mind:

Code: Select all

• No promises
• It's ours now (it's still yours, but now it's also ours)
• Try to keep it within the realm of what we can reasonably achieve
• Don't bog it down with too many in-references, but some are fine
• We can basically dick with it however we want
• It may not work as you have it, but may inspire us to do something else
• We may only use one line

CREDIT:
• If we use it basically as-is, use half-to-most of it, or don't change it drastically, you'll get a writing credit. If we use one or two lines, then we really appreciate it, and we'll thank/mention you in the podcast and forum. Essentially, you'll get the credit you deserve, whatever that may be.

IMPORTANT:
• If we don't use it, it doesn't mean it's not good, and it doesn't mean we love you any less. It only means it's not for us.

Thanks!

***Also, we suck at this. We had "Morning After" for well over a year before we used it. If you've already sent us something, and we haven't used it yet, it doesn't mean we didn't like it, we just forgot.***
Maybe remind us and re-send every 6-months.

You've used less than one line!

Graham, you guys really are pretty terrible at getting around to shooting cool ideas. Maybe you should print out a list of suggestions from the forums to have on hand when you have your weekly meeting?

I mean, if I had a nickel for every Video Suggestion you and the crew commented on and said you liked a whole hell of a lot, and that you didn't directly say was unfeasible (unlike the trebuchet), I'd definately have at least, at least, twelve nickels. I could buy like a soda with that. You fuckers owe me a soda.

Pious Flea, I remember your script, please resend it.

Alja: It's unfeasible. Awesome, yes, but we're never building a trebuchet.
[Oops, I misread that.]

Yes, then.
We do suck at it.

Let's go see if it survived the mainframe meltdown... although now that you've used the key idea from it, I'm not sure it's viable any longer.

Well, it may be worth a try.

If the one you're talking about is the one you just sent, then I don't know what idea from it we used. I promise you we never used anything from your script.

Although, I do know of a way it would work very well with another idea we've had for a while, so we may use it yet!

Dude, it's not a big deal. I'm (mostly) just messing with you - it's not as though I had an expectation that my script would ever get used.

Thing is, you put something in one of the videos that at least looks like the script entered into your background sea of concepts and emerged as a funny idea, and now any later use of the script will seem as though it were derived from that idea.

But that's totally all right!

Do fleas actually cry, and if so, how big are their tears?

Big fleas have little fleas,
Upon their backs to bite 'em,
And little fleas have lesser fleas,
and so, ad infinitum.

aww, I think it's cool you guys like getting submissions.

Hmm, I write for radio so I guess I could give writing for film a shot.
Will write for root beer
