I'm a huge Level 5 fan myself, when that fails, Capcom, specifically Clover studios, damn shame they shut that down.

I'm partial to Nifflas, myself.

Also, Kokoromi stylishly combine awesome games and game writing with dance parties and being French.

I'm partial to Valve myself, but I like Capcom and that new game by Naughty Dog looks really cool. I guess I don't really have one... sorry.

Honestly? I'm kinda pointing towards FunCom (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, The Secret World) or Bioware (KOTOR, Mass Effect).

Ubisoft is REALLY high up there (Beyond Good&Evil and Assassin's Creed), as is Valve and Nintendo R&D 1.

There was a time not long ago when I would have blurted out Square-Enix, but those days have passed. I might pick up FFXII some day, as I am assured it is excellent.

The Longest Journey was pretty good, but I'm not entirely certain whether I only felt that way because adventure games are so rare now and I really enjoy them. As adventure games go, I felt the story and the puzzles could have been quite a bit better, I think.

Also, I highly recommend FFXII. A lot of people badmouth it because they are not very smart and are also probably child molesters, but it's a fantastic game.

currently:
introversion
nintendo (include the 2nd party companies too)
ubisoft

used to:
id (haven't released anything great since Q2. Q3 was good & D3 was "eh").
Valve (steam )
EA (before they steamrolled the game industry in the late 90's)
Sierra (once they got sold they went down hill, fast. They were my #1 dev of all time though)

Hard choices. I love Rare, I love Square, I love Namco, I love Konami, Nintendo, Sega. Hell, I even have a few SCEA games I love. Blizzard, Insomniac and Valve are all in there, along with Bethesda and the defunct Black Isle/Interplay. Sierra, christ this list goes on.

Sierra was fucking great. If I could marry the original King's Quest games and Quest for Glory, I totally would.

I am so sad no one has mentioned classic Lucasarts. Day of the Tentacle, Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, The Dig, Loom, Full Throttle (alright so I'm a big sucker for adventure games.) They even at one time made good Star Wars games.

As for a modern developer, the only one I really follow is Blizzard and only because I played Starcraft till the CD broke (literally, it blew apart in my drive). Really the only time I notice a developer or publisher is when I can't skip by their logo when I start a game.

I'm currently <3-ing Nintendo (for everything) and BioWare (for NWN series). Lucasarts is a far third, only because I prefer my Star Wars in a novel.

I'm gonna have to go with Arc System Works because Guilty Gear X2 is pretty much the perfect game.

I would have put Lucasarts if they hadn't been retarded jackasses and done two things I can never forgive them for.

#1. They canceled Sam & Max: Freelance Police.
#2. Monkey Island 4 was never made.
