So. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, is...
... a musical.
Y'know what would be sweet? For Andy to give us a video review.

I don't know....
Tim Burton used to be one of my favorite people in the movie lands. Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Batman were great in my opinion. Batman Returns was ok, but then something happened to Burton.
I don't know, maybe the fact that he is no longer struggling has dulled his creative workings? Mars Attacks and Planet of the Apes were huge disappointments to me, with Corpse Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory being almost as bad.
Although, if it really is a musical....
Does anyone know if the music to this one is by Danny Elfman as normal? Maybe with the main focus being on the music, the rest will be ok.

Well TECHNICALLY the music would be by Sondheim, wouldn't it?
...or did Burton write his own score to everything but the songs and the his own arrangements of the songs?
I've never been a big fan of Burton and I REALLY don't like Johnny Depp. I just don't think he can pull off the Sweeney Todd thing, y'know, not being a baritone and all.
and OMG they cut out the ballads at the beginning and end. WTF?
Buut... I'll end up seeing this anyway because I am a Sondheim fan.

actually the original sweeny todd was the original character in a book that was then adapted into a play, which was then adapted into a musical by sondheim and hugh wheeler...
aparently hugh wheeler is behind the movie 100%... and although Johnny Depp has never sung before, I feel like with all the digital voice manipulations that make people who suck at singing sound good, that it won't really be a problem... however, we can't assume that Johnny Depp is actually a good singer when we see it...
However, Johnny Depp is a great character actor who I feel will make this role perfect... and Helen Bonham Carter is just freaky sometimes, so she will be perfect too, so i just don't see how the movie could go wrong...

FOR FUCK SAKES, DO SOME RESEARCH.
1) As has been pointed out, the original was a novel.
2) The fact that a musical version has been done does not imply that this movie version is a musical.
3) The fact that Johnny Depp is in the movie, and it's still a musical, is surprising.
4) Go put your head in a blender.

I am with Yamaro on this one! Sweeney Todd is always a musical. Come on! It was adapted from the book as a musical! Why would the movie be anything else?
I have always liked Johnny Depp, but I am not madly in love with him like most girls my age seem to be. I think he's a good actor, but not the best in the world. He tends to act every character like Jack Sparrow now. And Tim Burton - that's a hard one for me. I like him, but I am sort of disillusioned - he has done a lot of stuff that I haven't been terribly happy with, that the only reason it was successful was because all his fans go around going 'OMGZ TIM BURTON LOLZ I CAN WEAR MY NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS SHIRT' and he really isn't as god-like as everyone thinks he is.
Helena Bonham-Carter I really dislike. She only gets roles because she is banging Tim Burton.
I am really angry at myself, because Sweeney Todd was playing in Toronto and apparently it was AMAZING, but the run is over, so now I can't see it.

No, no, he's got blond hair and he's a writer or something in it.
Uhhh, Secret Window? Mr.D's IMDb page has a still from that film as his pic - longish straight blond hair (with dark roots really coming out), glasses and the "I decided to start growing a mustache last week" wisps.
And say...wasn't Cry-Baby a musical?
FWIW, he's been in at least a couple of bands, "The Kids" back when he was in his teens and "P" which is more recent but may or may not still exist. Depp's recorded with Oasis a couple of times, but don't hold that against him.
EDIT: Ah well, disregard Cry-Baby - he had a 'pitch singer', apprently.
And am I the only person who didn't mind Tiny Font?!? (based on others' responses, tho, I do agree it was unnecessary)

I saw the movie yesterday.
It was awesome, but the one thing that set me off was Mrs. Lovett.
I saw the 1983 Angela Lansbury one first, and her Mrs. Lovett was really eccentric and quirky, while the new one was very humdrum and forlorn. Especially in the "Worst Pies in London"' song.
But even then, the movie was awesome.

I can't think of a signature.
