Late Video This Week

Postby Graham » 18 Jan 2008, 12:18

Hey guys, my computer suffered a fatal punching-itself-in-the-balls error this week and the entire HD crapped out. I've been able to recover the files, but I'm working on my considerably less RAM-laden laptop, so the video is taking me a little longer.
Just FYI.

No problem Graham, it's not like if it was your fault.

We'll just have to put ourselves into a sugar induced coma until the video comes out.

Yes though if you want to get in a sugar induced coma faster just grab hideously large bags of sugar and eat that...

Graham didn't let me down. It would've been a different story if he hadn't said anything.

Graham, I'll let it slide this once if you START BACKING UP!
Even though you recovered the files...

What computer were/are you using anyway? I knew it was a Mac of some sort, a MacBook Pro, iMac, or Powerbook?

iMac G5.
Had it for years, and it's always done me sterling service, but also acting funny over the past months. Finally it gave weird kernel panic, so I did a hard shut down.
Since then it doesn't get past the bootup screen.

The weird thing is, the 10.4 install disk sees the drive [and disk utility fails], but the 10.5 one doesn't, so I can't reinstall Leopard. Tiger fails during verification of the volume.

Solution: Mount it under Target Disk Mode as an external drive on my laptop.
Problem: Laptop doesn't see it.

Ah, but! Laptop is also running Leopard, who's install disk didn't it.

Final Solution: Paul's old laptop still running 10.3, dead hard drive mounts properly, so I can grab the files onto my USB 2.0 external drive.

Except... Paul's laptop only has USB 1.0, so it would take weeks.
So: Desktop > Firewire > Old Laptop > Ethernet > New Laptop > USB Drive

Yay.

That sounds like a looooot of fun.
Methinks Steve Jobs rigged a switch for your PPC-running Mac to fcuk up in time for MacWorld so you could switch to Intel.

Sheesh, get back to work.

We understand Graham. Though the following quote from the MacWorld thread kinda seems ironic...

Don't you mean one of these: Image

I thought it was perfect. His hard drive IS named James Morton, right? And the date is only a little bit off, and it's a VERY distasteful choice in font, but you'll get a discount that way.

Sorry to hear about the deceased/diseased computer, Graham. Just think: having to wait for the video will give time for the flavors to meld and the juices to ferment, making it all the sweeter.
